Had my colonoscopy yesterday which was two years since my last one. Sounds like the next one will be in another two years.

The prep for this one was the best I ever had. It tasted fine and according to the documented results was an excellent prep. I used Dulcolax, Miralax-Gatorade, and Magnesium Citrate. The Gatorade definitely helped immensely. The Magnesium Citrate had a little bite to it (very acidic) so I had to brush my teeth after it.

As for the Colonoscopy, it appeared that I had a little redness near the cecum and more near the rectum but the doctor noted that my ulcerative colitis was inactive. It's so cool watching the procedure on the monitor. I suggested to the doctor that he should offer selling the video to patients but he wasn't interested.

I did have a full set of biopsies performed as well. The doctor noted that about 90% of colonoscopies now have full biopsies performed. That surprised me. I also had two low lying polyps removed that were growing where I had previously had a polyp removed. I'll get the analysis results back in a few days.

I keep trying to convince my doctor that the Asacol is useless and that I should just dump it but he keeps pressing me to keep taking it. He claims that those that use it have a reduced risk of colon cancer. I suspect that those that are in remission have a lower risk of colon cancer since I doubt that a non-ulcerative colitis population has been tested. Has anyone heard of such a study?

Hi...great to hear it went well.

Your doctor should add rectal meds. And the Asacol is also to help keep the rest of your colon nice and quiet...between the rectum and cecum (two inflammation areas).

Please consider rectal meds....

Seems something's working ifyou had pancolitis and now only two areas...you don't want them to join again.

be well.

When do you go for your biopsy results? Get a copy if you can...good for your records.

I have been awake for every one of my colonoscopies (there have been five or six now). I am sedated just enough to minimize the discomfort. There is only a little bit of discomfort when he turns the corners otherwise there is none. The biopsies (and polyp removals) din't hurt either though I think I could feel the tugging that occurred.

I was on a rectal med (I think that it was Mesalamine based) at one time but it seemed to make things worse. I keep shooting to be drug free.
