Most of you who have seen my posts on here know i am a pretty up beat guy.  Try to find humor in all this and such.  But the last few days I've been down.  Not sure why.  Not sure I'd called it depressed but definately have the Blahs.  Is this part of the pred taper?  If so this is one of the worst side effects of this drug... Least for me.  Like I said I'm normally up beat and positive.

Are you listening to the news? I got really, really down last week because in following government activity (my job) I had to listen to all the reasons we needed stimulus, about how people were suffering and it was only going to get worse... that woman living in her car who broke out in tears when she was trying to ask Obama a question, and could finally only say, help me... made me teary all day and the next...and even now.

Oops, that wasn't very cheery, sorry. I'm also normally very upbeat!

Anyway, I guess prednisone can wreak havoc on your emotions. Just knowing it might help, so you're part way there. Let your girlfriend pamper you, my hubby does when I need it and it makes me feel lots better.

yes its common to get depressed as you are coming off of prednisone. it can really throw your emotions out of whack and it might take a few weeks to a month or so after your last dosage before you start feeling more like you again.

I see youare down to 30 mg. - me too!  Not sure about feeling "blah" but if you live anywhere near where I do - just look outside and I feel "blah".  Being aware is good.  Do something fun - get enough rest, etc.

Remember all the GREAT things in your life and Spring is coming!!  I am going to my knee surgeon to schedule knee replacement on MOnday.  Just think - you aren't me  - having to go through that.  I will be depending on you guys here to keep me sane after surgery LOL!

Actually Kops.... am down to 12.5 mg and probably dropping to 10 in a couple more days. Will see how I am doing over the weekend. My goal is to be totally off this drug in another month to 40 days. Dr seems to be dropping me 2.5 mg about every ten days unless I haven't stablized yet, then he makes me go another ten days before dropping.

Tapering off the pred is just as hard as actually being on the high doses. I actually found I had more side effects while tapering than while I was going full force. I remember when I hit 20mg (down from 60) that's when the munchies started and full-fledged insomnia - achy joints - etc. Just hang in there.

I am down to 20 mg. tomorrow.  With the stress and boredom of this snow, etc.  not sure where the emotions are!  I seem fine - still have mucoud and some slight symptoms - nothing I could not "live with".  At 68 been "living with" a lot - arthritis, corneal disease, hypertension, etc. etc.  Just a somewhat normal life would be good.  I just hope the 20 mg. does not start up the bleeding and so much gas once again!!  I am concerned about not being on anything and have no idea what my doc will suggest next.

When I got off on the steroids I cried every day and had the worst mood swings.. I can't believe my husband put up with me. Here recently I came out of a 2 1/2 month flare-up and had to taper off the meds. I too was so depressed and found myself with extreme anxiety. I'm in sales so you have to be upbeat (which I usually always am). My doc says that it could take up to 6 months for the steroids to be out of my body which really had me worried. Just yesterday I took the day off because I was feeling so "blah". Hang in there, it has only been 2 weeks since I quit taking the steroids completely and my days of blah and depression are fewer. I agree with Peety... the news does probably have more of an effect on you and I because our emotions are out of whack.

Geez, guess I am the oddball here.  My insomnia, depression and mood swings were when I was on the high dose of prednisone.  Felt a lot better as my dosage was lowered.

Pred. is making me crazy. I have been laid off 6 weeks now. Had to lay out money for Cobra insurance, so there goes 1 week unemployment every month. I am in full blown stage and the thought of finding a new job in a flare up is extremely hard. Mood swings like crazy. I know I have to eat more but am not sure what to eat. I would hate to go to an interview and then suddenly have to go to the bathroom. I am at a very depressed state.
2 kids and mortgage. I know I am not alone, but I am the one that has to deal with my feelings.

Second day on 20 mg.  So far, so good.  No real problems - little more munchies, maybe but I love to eat (as you can see looking at me).  Also, maybe a little moody but always this time of year.  Best of all is the UC seems ok except for a little "discomfort" very low under belly.
