Hi-
To all those taking lialda--when during the day do you take it and do you have a meal first? later? My doc says 1st thing in the morning with my orange juice but I am thinking it upsets my stomach"? Also--what is the difference between lialda and pentasa since both of thier active ingredient is mesalamine??
Do any of you also take dyclomine?(sp?)  I take this ( 2 pills of 10mg)as soon as my feet hit the floor in the morning due to nausia then. I appreciate any answers as I try to get this under control. I am better than when I was first diagnosed but still have urgency issues espcially when traveling.

I take my 4 Lialda in the morning at breakfast when I take everything else I'm on. I've never had an upset stomach from it. I don't know anything about the other med. you mentioned.

I take 4 lialda with breakfast. I eat about half of my breakfast, take the lialda and finish breakfast. It sandwiches the meds between the food. I've heard some people take 2 lialda with breakfast and 2 with dinner (if your taking 4 lialda).

My GI said that it doesn't really matter when I take it during the day. As long as it's around the same time every day and it's a time I remember the best...take it. So I've been taking it at dinner time... I just remember it easier, plus it's hard for me to want to eat in the morning...
Kara, 21F Married.
Latest-Went to ER cuz I couldn't eat for 5 days and was having severe flare up after passing two kidney stones after a week of the flu. (long month)
GI is currently trying to taper me off of pred fairly fast in hopes to keep me on Lialda and at a lower dosage of pred. to try mesalamine enemas again. Hope it works...if it doesn't.. I go on Imuran and am on pred longer. *crosses fingers*
Medications:Prednisone 40mg Again! (groan)Lialda 4 a day Antibiotic-Amoxyclln
I am so sick of this disease!

I take 4 of them first thing in the morning. ANd I rarely eat breakfast anymore. SO I take them with all my other meds and on an empty stomach. With alot of water. I can't say they have ever upset my stomach. I normally get up around 7. Lunch is normally early though, 10:30 or 11:00.

I take mine first thing in the morning. I usually try to take them after eating a small breakfast bar, but haven't had any problems occasionally taking it on an empty stomach. To answer your other question the only difference between Lialda and Pentasa is the shell. Lialda has the reddish brown MMX coating which protects the medicine until it reaches the colin. Pentasa comes in a capsule that does the same thing.

Thanks Jrob.

My Doc seems to have much more confindence in the Lialda and says I should "feel the positive effects within days."

(which I did) It just made me wonder why he didn't start me with that in the first place instead of 10 weeks with the Pentasa. Oh well, I will keep taking it along with the Rowesa enemas.

I asked my doctor the same thing after we tried Colazal (which gave me even worse D). He said he usually tries Colazal first because it's cheaper for most people.

Yes, now that I think about it--that is probably the same reason why he waited to give me the lialda. Thank god my insurance does cover it

I take 4 Mezavant (same as Lialda) in the morning. No problems regarding upset stomach but recently taken off Mezanvant because of side effects (extreme anxiety, chest pains, stomach pains etc). Anybody else experiencing side effects with this drug? I had to go back on mezavant because uc symptoms returned within a week.
