I don't know if this is just a coincidence but in my 8 years of having UC I pretty much always have a flare up around spring time.  Last year I was started on Azathioprine.  After a colonoscopy in Sept of last year I was told that some of the biopsies showed active disease so was told to using predsol enemas nightly for 3 months to "knock it on the head".
I had an appt 3 weeks ago and seen a different doctor one which I have never seen before who told me to decrease to one every second night.  1 week prior to this appt I started to notice signs that all was not good but decreased to every second night as he did not seem concerned but things feel like they are getting worse.  Not terribly bad but when I am entering a flare my stomach aches a little and the stool is much less formed and increasing urgency but still no more than 3 times a day at the moment.
Do you think I will be able to ride this out or is it a "seasonal flare" and another bout of steroids will be needed.  I thought the Aza would take care of this but if I am still going to have a yearly flare up whats the point.
I will see how things go and will contact my Dr but in the past I have always felt that they do not care unless I am up to about 8 bm's a day.

You are right it aggravates during spring and autumn. At least that is common for quite a few of UCers. There are already lots of postings on this issue. You may go through the same to enlighten you further. Even I had given my views on the same on this forum.

The very first time I had symptoms it was in September of 98.  Every flare thereafter started either in the fall or winter.  The last three flares started end of March or beginning of April.  This is very much seasonal for me anyway.  I asked my doctor if it could be allergy related because there is a lot of asthma in my family.  He didn't have a direct answer to that, but mentioned it could very well be.

Update 11/03/08...finally in remission!!  Hope I don't jinx myself.  Off the prednisone since 11/01/ see if I can stay off for longer than two weeks.  Other meds: 6MP (75 mgm), colazal (6 per day), Benicar and Toprol (high blood pressure meds), Probiotic (2 per day), fish oil capsule and multi-vitamin and calcium with vitamin D.
