How much blood does everyone lose during a flare?! I know its hard to judge!
I'm wondering if I'm anaemic, for example - after walking the dogs for 20 - 30 mins, I am tired and light headed when I return home, and need to sit down for a while to 'recover'. I have been losing varying amounts of blood most days for the past year however my blood tests have always come back fine, and the past 2/3 weeks alot has been literally dripping out and also mixed in with mucous and stool several times a day. I am due to go into hospital on Friday for 7 - 10 days for different medication so I'm sure they will do another blood test then, but I just wondered...?!

When I had my first (and by far worst) flare and was hospitalized/diagnosed, I was anemic. I take an iron supplement now and get my blood tested from time to time and so far so good.

Fatigue is one of my major flare symptoms. The simple act of showering would send me to bed for a few hours to rest. It could be you are anemic - easy to test in the docs office with a simple pinprick test. However - more likely it's just the UC.

I had to go in 3 times for the labs to draw blood. I'm on the iron supplement that's in my signature and I feel so much better. I wasn't able to do anything without being winded and feeling exhausted. Just getting up the stairs was a big ordeal.

There's another thread on this very subject as well.

Pull your lower eyelid down and if the color is a very pale pink you could be anemic. After 2 months of my worst flare and surgery to remove the colon, it still took 4 weeks after surgery for the blood tests to show that I was anemic!

You can ask your doctor for a b12 shot, it will help your energy levels, and do an internet search on foods high in iron to add to your diet.

I lost tons of blood during my second flare. I tried to estimate how much by deducting the amount I thought was due to diarrhea, mucus, and water. It looked like I was losing somewhere between 1 1/2 to 2 cups of blood a day.

This amount sounds very implausible though, considering that we have only 15 pints of blood in us and that we loose only about 3 tablespoons of blood every month from our period.

I didn't lose as much blood during my third flare, but I was passing more blood clots, each one contained about 1 tablespoon of blood. At the peak of my flare, I was losing five to ten tablespoons of blood a day due to the blood clots.

That does sound like an awful lot though. I would think someone would die losing that much blood.
