Hello My fellow friends.

My name is Carlos i reside in miami florida.FOr a little under a week now i have been suffering from wierd rectal pains on the right side of my anus. I wasnt really sure what it was so i left it untreated for 2 or 3 days, but the pain hasnt gone away. i spoke to my mother and she believes i have Hermroids. but i have yet to bleed once. i can go to the bathroom when i have to, but since i been feeling so sick, i havent been eating as much so ive only been going about once a day now in the morning.i began to take Preparation H along with ibuprofen(how ever you spell it) im also getting a really hot rag and pressing it against my anus, all these things help with easing the pain but it only comes back after a few hours.the ibuprofen help the greatest but i dont knw if its just the pain relief. i really only feel the pain when i strain(cough, laugh, make a funny movement, getting up from a chair) im also having night sweats
everynight.at about the same time i started feeling this way i was getting over a cold, in which i was on antibiotics.

thing is now my mother is recommending cortisone supositories but after doing research im not sure if this is something i want to do. i am 26 years old, yes over weight, but this must all change now.i dont have much money or insurance so a doctor isnt really what im looking to do. i was wondering if anyone can assist me with this situation.

is what i have hermroids?or can it be something else?is the cortizone supositories reallly worth it? i hear you must adhere to taking 2 a day fro 2 weeks and during which the complications get worse before getting better.

i would really appreciate swift responses for i am starting to get on the desperate side. please any feedback would be greatful thanks!

Carlos

Sorry Carlos but I don't think we can really offer you any advice because you don't know what is going on. Do you have UC? It sounds like you could have hemmroids, they can be very painful and for me, I have never found anything that helps with the pain significantly.

You really should see a Gastro if you think you may have UC.

If you want to get checked for Hemmroids, you can probably see your GP. I don't have insurance and I have to pay out of pocket to see a GI so I know how difficult it is but I feel a lot better knowing what is going on and having medication that help my situation. For my hemmroids, I find that tucks (formerly Anusol) help a lot more than Preparation H. That is just my opinion of course. Please go see a doctor and find out if you have external hemmroids. You may need a colonoscopy or sigmoidoscopy to check for internal hemmroids. Hopefully it is hemmroids and not something worse like UC. My doctor thought mine was hemmroids but it ended up being UC. I did have blood on the toilet paper regularly so I knew something was not right.

There can be a variety of causes for this pain - hemmeroids, abscesses, boils etc. We can't possibly know what's going on which is why you should see a doctor - any doctor. I know in my state, they have walk in clinics that don't charge as much as a family doctor or a specialist but at least you would be able to be seen. Or possibly even make an appt with a MD and explain that you don't have much money and ask about a payment plan. Most doctor's offices are willing to work with you.

Btw, Uc is Ulcerative Colitis - this is the forum in which you posted on.

well the cortisone sups are somewhat helping. i was taking them with ibuprofuns and that was REALLY helping me out(sometimes i didnt feel anything) but my mother said i should stop taking the ibuprofun and let the sups work alone. so far today i havent taking any pain killers. i been in bed all day.the pains are still there but they arent as sharp now.... i dont know if the sups are working or what? what do you guys think?i REALLY dont want to go to the docs they always tell you 1000 other things that are wrong with you just to take money.money that i really dont have.

I think we are all hesitating to diagnose you Carlos.  We just speak through our own experiences with ulcerative colitis/proctitis.  Is there a clinic near you where you can be seen by a doctor?  You should get checked out.

Update 11/03/08...finally in remission!!  Hope I don't jinx myself.  Off the prednisone since 11/01/08...now see if I can stay off for longer than two weeks.  Other meds: 6MP (75 mgm), colazal (6 per day), Benicar and Toprol (high blood pressure meds), Probiotic (2 per day), fish oil capsule and multi-vitamin and calcium with vitamin D.

Carlos, we are not doctors. We are people that suffer from Ulcerative Colitis that have come to an online support group to find help for ourselves and to seek others like ourselves. We can not diagnose you and we are hesitant to offer any suggestions because we (and you) don't know what it is that you are dealing with. To have pain while having a bowel movement is not normal. I know you are probably tired of hearing this but seriously, you do need to be seen by a doctor to determine what it is that you are dealing with.

Ditto what Red_34 said. Pain like that is not normal but we can't diagnose you. Even if we were doctors, we couldn't diagnose you without an exam.
Symptoms began in November 2008, ~4 weeks after giving birth to my son.
Eased for ~3 weeks in December, possibly b/c of probiotic use?
Returned in January 2009 (with a vengeance), diagnosed with pancolitis on January 30.
Currently taking Asacol (400mg 4 pills 3x daily), Rowasa nightly, Culturelle probiotic, and Zoloft (25 mg).

This is another classic sign of an anal fissure...go see a colorectal doctor.

Are you running a fever???  Is the stiff/semi-swollen area of your butt hurt when you touch it.  Are you still suffering from loss of appetite?  Do you feel unwell?   If so one possible explanation is that you have an anal or  rectal abscess which will require medical attention and is nothing you should fool around with trying to manange on your own because it can make you very very ill.

Or it could be something completely different.

Like you been told multiple times on this thread, You need to see a doctor!  If it helps think of it this way......  You go to doc/emergency now and nip whatever this is in the bud, and pay for one visit or wait until you are really sick and be stuck with a ridiculously high bill for a hospital stay a few weeks from now.

Good luck!

Carlos:

There are no doctors on this forum. We can't help you learn what is causing your pain or what will help it. It could be something minor, or it could be something very serious. The pain could continue for a long time unless it's properly treated. If it is something serious, you might get sicker and sicker, and end up in the hospital.

You need to see a doctor, my friend. I know Miami has clinics available where you can be seen on a sliding scale fee, so no insurance really isn't an excuse.

PLEASE SEE A DOCTOR. We cannot help you here.

I developed hemmoroids a long time ago due to BM issues from college and they only became worse with my initial flare of UC and my pregnancy. I was in agony one day and my mom suggested I put a little Vicks in that area. I thought she was crazy b/c I felt that nothing could heal my pains.

Well...I tried and it worked! Just before my surgery my hemies were extremely angry and cussing up a storm (I think they knew their days were limited!) and I applied Vicks several times each day and it allowed me to lay down, sit down and walk without problem. I never treated my hemmies b/c I had a constant flare and always in pain.

So try some Vicks and see how that goes.
