What do you all use for colds and sore throats?
Last time I had a major cold, I think I used Tylenol's cold meds. But that caused horrible D, so I'm scared of trying any specific cold meds. I was thinking about trying Zicam, but then I read online that a few hundred people have lost their sense of smell after using it. Should I just take vitamin C supplements?

I have found that during a flare up I can take nothing in liquid form or gel form , but that anything in pill form was fine .

Hope that that helps

Have you ever tried Dayquil? I use that when I am sick and I do fine with it. Zicam gives me D because I don't think I can tolerate the zinc. Also, if my nose is stuffy, I use 4 way nasal spray by Vicks to help me sleep but I only use that for a couple of days to avoid the rebound effect.

I've used the Zicam nose swabs several times over the last couple of years ( I work in an elementary school so I am constantly around runny noses, coughing and the yucks). It works great and really does shorten the duration and severety of my symptoms. You have to stick to the regimen of using it every 4 to 6 hours and within a day or two I have noticed I'm feeling much better. It doesn't have any effects on my UC, maybe because it is the nose swab type rather than ingesting the other versions.
Presently on: 500 mg. Remicade every 4 weeks
                   15 mg. Methotrexate/injection weekly
                   12 Asacol daily
