Hi everyone

Has anybody here ever taken "Ensure Plus" Vitamin milkshakes?

My Dr has put me on them, but I they may be causing my UC symptoms to worsen?  If anyone has any experience of them, I would be most grateful for any advice.

Many thanks

When I was in the hospital, they put me on a thing called Peptamin, very similar to Ensure, when I was let out of the hospital, I was put on Ensure. Very expensive, but fairly good. I had no problem with them and my UC though.

Diagnosed with UC since March 2007

Taking Humira and Imuran since May 2007 (Currently in remission since May 2007)
Taken off Imuran 1/15/09
Only taking Humira.

Can't take Asacol, Allergic to Remicade

Ensure, Boost and similar drinks are high in sugars and unhealthy fats - either of which can cause problems for some people.

A better option would be Absorb Plus - a predigested shake mix formulated especially for IBDers or even a protein shake mix or meal replacement shake mix used for fitness and bodybuilding.
Diagnosed with ulcerative colitis spring 1999.

Maintenance dose sulfasalazine. Probiotics, l-glutamine, vitamin D and fish oil caps. George's aloe vera juice. Oregano oil antibiotic, antiviral, antifungal. Mostly grain-free and dairy-free diet. Long-term remission with only minor blips.

On my worst days when I lost 10 lbs because of my flare, I drank 3 cans of Ensure Plus (on top of my regular meals) everyday for 3 weeks. I added hot water to it and so 1 can of Ensure made 2 cups of warm drinks. I liked it better this way.

I'm feeling much better now and I don't need Ensure anymore. Hope you will feel better soon.

Since I have been sick I use Glucerna a nutritional shake for diabetics it tastes good plus it is lactose and gluten free. I sometimes blend it with a banana. If you feel that it is making your UC worse then I would try other options like some of the other posters have said. With UC what works for one person may not work for the other. I wish you luck.
Female, Left-sided colitis diagnosed at age 28 in 2001
Currently, I am in a terrible flare after taking Augmentin (antibiotic)
Trying to drink Glucerna for nourishment but even that upsets my stomach sometimes.
All my meds are approved by the doc. for breastfeeding but they still make me nervous.
3.5mg Low Dose Naltrexone (Stopped taking, didn't have time to wait for it to work), Prednisone 40mg, Zoloft, Asocal (but they are going straight through), enemas=hydrocortisone, Meselamine, vitamin E suppositories (I can bearly hold enemas in and they irritate). Prenatal vitamins, Juice Plus, Expecta DHA,Emergen C, VSL $$$$$ ( (Not taking all of my supplements right now they hurt too badly) Starting 1st Remicade infusion as of 2/24/09.
