A friend just suggested I try acupuncture for my colitis.  She claims it was the only thing that finally cleared up a horrible rash that the doctors c ouldn't get rid of.

Has anyone tried this?  I would be happy to pay even if my insurance wouldn't cover it.

I've always meant to and the lady that teaches my yoga class practices accupuncture. I asked her and she says she has treated others with UC. I've put it on hold until post pregnancy to try it out.

Didn't work for me, I went into a flare anyway and decided I was probably wasting my money.
But I agree it can work really well for some things. Helped my cat a lot.
49 year old female attorney, diagnosed UC/pancolitis 1985, no surgery but much suffering. Asacol/5ASA 6x400 mg maintenance for 20+ years; use prednisone & Rowasa for flares.
August 2008 sought care of naturopathic doctor. Food sensitivity test showed wheat/gluten, other intolerances; eliminated all wheat/gluten from my diet. Probiotics (Ultimate Flora, 50 billion), trying Curamin.
Flaring, seasonal? or supplements too harsh? Back on prednisone, trying 15/20 mg. Appt 3/6 to discuss Humira, etc.

Hi, This is my experience on chinese med. I went 3 different herb med doctors who also practice acupuncture. They all suggested me to take herb med for UC. I spent about $1700 and made my condition worse. I tried 2 doctors from LA and 1 doctor from San Jose, ca. I would not intend to try anymore in the future.
Good Luck to you

I try acupuncture at the moment. Does it help?: don't know.

The woman I am seeing use both acupuncture and acu-pressure under the feet. Also she has given me som nutritional guidelines to follow as well as some herbs. She says it's the combination that helps.

So the "treatment" is:
- Acupuncture/acupressure
- Herbs
- Nutritionals: Pea protein, lots of nuts/seeds, low on carbs, vegetables preferably cocked, unprocessed meats, no sugar, no coffee, no alcohol

I do okay, but I'm still on medication, and normally do fine on medication. Mentally I seem to be doing better - but maybe that's just the hope of a cure giving positive thoughts.
I don't know
