This essay in the new york times is about living with UC.

Thanks for sharing that...

I had to laugh when she described the things she delighted in so much that everyone else calls normal. For me, it was the first time I headed to the bathroom and pee-ed standing up! LOL I was ecstatic!! For you guys out there, you hear what I'm saying.

The one day that I don't read the NYTimes there's a UC article! :)

I'm in the same place--in remission, but always worried about when I'll flare next.

You wrote this article, right? I liked the lines "Afraid to believe in something so ephemeral as remission, reluctant to trust this coquettish sweetness called normalcy," "It’s a contract scribbled on a rain cloud," and "Like a mama bird, he is gently nudging me out of the nest. He wants me to fly away."

How does one become a contributer to a newspaper or magazine? I've always wondered about that.

Very well written. This something that I have believed in for a long time. I KNOW I will flare again but in the meantime, I live life as if I don't have a chronic illness. Sure, I know that it will always be there but when I am feeling normal I want to enjoy what life has to offer. I live in the now and I try not to worry about tomorrow. I believe this is a huge hurdle that many people have to overcome.

Loren,

Great article! Your words certainly summed up my feelings with UC. Thanks for being a spokesperson for many.

This is a Great Article! I love her words ". I can take road trips with my husband, and attend movies at the mall. I can make plans and keep them. "

Great articles. You are a very good writer and describe the emotions and thought processes of myself almost perfectly. I have shared them with all of my friends and family that have asked a lot about UC, but you did a good job of putting my feelings, thoughts, hopes, and fears into words.

Thanks for sharing.

The author is lucky. Most of the GIs I've seen seem to take the attitude of "Your remission is a fluke. It will be over soon. Call us when you flare again," even though I've pretty much been in remission for years. It would be nice to find one who's happy about my success.
