Hi everyone,

comming to an end of my flare up since being in remission for 4 years.  I gave up smoking 10 weeks ago using nicotine patches and after reading the internet, strongly believe that giving up smoking has been the cause for this flare up, its been short and to say a shock from being in remission too.  Does anyone else think the quit smoking has played a major part in the flare up?  I totally come off the patches in just over a week and my system will be getting zero nicotine and this now worries me??  i dont want to become a smoker again, but i dont want to have more flare ups??

also,

my flare up has been short (thankfully) however now im not rushing off to the toilet as much, my lower back and all areas of my stomach and abdomin are in serious waves of pain.  my stomach feels and looks like a pregnancy! (its deffo not!!).  whats this all about, ive never experienced this before.

thanks if you can help

Hi...I would definitely believe that quitting smoking was a participant in your flare. You could have been in early stages of a flare anyway...but without smoking, your symptoms may just be more obvious.

What you're explaining seems to be normal flare symptoms...with a faster acting gut, the gas/spasming can certainly make one bloated and look preggo.

Are you on any meds at this time? if so, what?

You might consider probiotics...although some can cause discomfort. You could take them at night 2 hours after your meds (if you consider them)

Since your quitting smoking...have you been eating foods that could be contributing to some of your discomfort?

Hope you feel better soon,
