Hi Everyone,

i know that everyone here takes extra supplements and I was wondering what supplements are really important in your perspective.
Diagnosed with UC in Feb 2008. Lost 25lb in three weeks. Bloody hell diarrhea
Flare up in june 2008. took more antibiotics. Harder flare
Took prednisone for two months then 6mp. But I decided to get off on both.

10/08Started drinking hard liquors and once drank 15 shots in an hour.
Next day flare up.
11/08 Started anti-yeast regimen. I crapped out so much yeast. still crapping out yeast.

On: No med but zinc, cod liver oil, coral calcium, probiotics, threelac, alpha lipoic acid, chlorella, sea salt, garlic, aloe vera

2-3 times a day to the bathroom. A little bit of diarrhea(detox) then nice stool comes out. no bloating. good digestion.

Thanks

Probitiocs are definitely a must IMO, but I probably wouldn't do very well without my natural anti-inflammatories that I take (bee propolis, chamomile tea, omegas 3-6-9, as well as fibre supplements and vitamins A and C-Calcium Ascorbate)...then again, those are the only things I take for my IBD since I'm either allergic or non-responsive to traditional oral RX.

:)

When I had UC I was tired ALL THE TIME!!! Exhaustion and fatigue were a daily struggle.

So, I took Super B-Complex morning and night, and B-12 dissolvable tabs throughout the day...at least three in the morning and another three or four a couple times throughout the day. I also took a basic multi-vitamin.

After my surgery I've continued the same routine, but I don't take the B-12 as much...just in the morning if I have a hard time gettin' goin'!

Probiotics and fish oil. I had great success with wheat grass also, even though it taste like complete death it helped me out. I eventually bought a little capsule machine and started putting it in pill tablet form. I don't know how people can drink that stuff.

My maintenance drugs consist of fish oil and acidophilus.. I take prednisdone when I have a flare up to get it under control. My bum likes me at the moment.

My GI says all I need is the calcium, vitamin d and folic acid while on the predisone, and then nothing.

the naturopath I see says I need Gluatiamine, Probotics and Omega

My wife says I need a multi vitamin and b12!!!

So I take the Probotics, Omega 3, multi vitamin and B12...I have the Gluatiamine, but I always forget to take it

Probiotics, anti-inflammatory tea

I'm back to eating pro-inflammatory foods now that I'm not flaring, but I will still drink anti-inflammatory tea and eat curry or spinach to help offset the pro-inflammatory foods.

I agree with this. It really does help. I would rather have a multi-vitamin then an iron pill anyday.

Hi WishfulMA,

An anti-inflammatory diet is basically eating/drinking plenty of anti-inflammatory foods/teas (the ones that your body isn't intolerant to) and avoiding any foods/beverages that are pro-inflammatory.

I eat mild curries, which contain turmeric--an extremely potent anti-inflammatory substance.

I drink a tea (Tension Tamer by Celestial Seasonings) that contains Chamomile, cinnamon, ginger, lemongrass, licorice, catnip, and Tilia. All of these ingredients are anti-inflammatory.

Other anti-inflammatory foods/ingredients:

Omega-3
salmon
soybeans, tofu, and soy milk
whole grain products (if not intolerant)
oatmeal
nuts
green leafy vegetables (e.g. spinach)
berries
garlic

Pro-inflammatory foods:

junk foods
fried foods
spicy foods (hence very mild curries as opposed to spicy curries)
high-fat meats
processed meats
sugars
dairy
eggs
Nightshades (tomatoes, white potatoes, bell peppers, chili, paprika, eggplant)
Joy - 47 yrs and counting
Diagnosed w/ UC Dec 06 (also have IBS)
Currently in remission

Lexapro (for stress)
Probiotics and Vitamins (a whole bunch of them)
Anti-inflammatory foods: turmeric, seaweed, garlic...
