What do you take that doesn't make you sick in other ways?
UC diagnosed January 05
Past Meds: Azasan (Imuran) - piercing chest pains after six days so tried different brand aka Azathioprine - morning nausea /didn't really help after more than 6 months, dicyclomine (still flared), Remicade - 7 treatments (stopping because no dramatic changes), allergy shots (03-07), levbid, prednisone (been off since nov. 08!), rowasa
Current meds: Asacol 4 - 3x, Aciphex (acid reflux), canasa and rowasa alternating every other night, konsyl (fiber for bulking stool), multivitamin, caltrate 2x a day. probiotic (florasmart), astelin (nasal spray as needed for allergies), fosamax (bone density)

Chelated form of Zinc is great. Also colostrum with all the Ig factors play a huge role. And finally chlorella because it makes live bacteria in your probiotic supplement multiply at 4 times the regular rate.
JAMES - 19 Years old. 2nd year in college.

Was bodybuilding for middle weight class at 175lb with 6%bf. then BOOM. UC kicked in for the first time in my life
Diagnosed with UC in Feb 2008. Lost 25lb in three weeks. Bloody hell diarrhea
Flare up in june 2008. took more antibiotics. Harder flare
Took prednisone for two months then 6mp. But I decided to get off on both.

10/08Started drinking hard liquors and once drank 15 shots in an hour.
Next day flare up.
11/08 Started anti-yeast regimen. I crapped out so much yeast. still crapping out yeast.

On: No med but zinc, cod liver oil, coral calcium, probiotics, threelac, alpha lipoic acid, chlorella, sea salt, garlic, aloe vera

in semi remission

Ok - probably dumb question!  If I am taking an immune suppressant (6-MP) then why would I take something to boost my immune systme to avoid catching a cold?  You gotta answer in plain English - nothing medical.  Just doesn't make any sense to me.

Senior - New diagnosed with proctosigmoiditis - 6/2008
Tried all mesalamines and enemas, Canasa, etc.  Colonoscopy 10/28 showed only few cm. left to heal -hydrocortisone enemas 12 days - much worse. Cannot tolerate mesalamine!
2/3/2009 - sigmoidoscopy showed about 30 cm. involved but mild - starting on prednisone only 40 mg. taper on 2/7/2009.
Feb. 21 - down to 20 mg. - no blood, no pain, no bad side effects so far. Starting 6-MP Feb. 28 along with 20 mg. prednisone. March 9 - spoke too soon - bleeding returned.
Probiotic Align, Prilosec for GERD

I don't know if I have the answer that you are looking for, Elaine.

But what I do know is that from my doctor when I used to take 6MP is that you can't boost your immune system by exercising or whatever you do when you are on 6MP.

6MP just brings the level of white cells that fight off infections down. So if you catch something and your white blood cells are fighting it by phagocytosis or whatever it won't be effective because the number of white blood cells are somewhat down.

No wonder 6MP is used for people with leukemia as well.

Maybe good question for my gastro doctor on Monday - let me go write that down (have to write everything down or I get there and my head goes blank!)  Helps that my gastro doctor was an internist first - he can answer "other" questions - not just about my colon!
