So, last week Helicobacter pylori test positive. Possible treatment: 2 antibiotics and 1 some other medication. I am afraid a little bit to go on antibiotics for a month, as now I am in remission for some 6 months. Any experience in dealing with this bacteria and UC? Thanks
What symptoms are you suffering that might be caused by h.pylori? An ulcer? H.pylori appears to be causative for the great majority of ulcers, however something like half the population is h.pylori positive and yet only a small percentage have any ulcers or other symptoms. (Interestingly it appears that h.pylori may be protective against asthma, and I recall seeing unusually low incidence of h.pylori in those with UC compared to the general population).
The standard eradication of h.pylori involves several antibiotics, often including amoxiccilin (sp.), which has for me been the most severe flare-producer ever. I will not ever touch that drug ever since I once used it for oral surgery and it created an almost endless super-flare, even after stopping it on the second day.
Pancolitis >20 years, allergic to all 5ASAs
Tried everything under the sun (natural and alternative)
Some partial success with TSO but was too expensive to keep up
Currently Remicade and lots of probiotics, tapering pred again, maybe surgery this year
