Anyone have any good suggestions for stopping being so bloated?! I never used to suffer from it too badly but the past week or so since I've been out of hospital I'm so bloated I look like I'm a few months pregnant haha!

I have recently discovered I'm intolerant to lactose and bakers yeast so have been cutting that out of my diet in the hope it will reduce some of the symptoms so I don't think its that part of my diet causing the problem.

Hi..yes, that's a most difficult aspect of colon inflammation and intolerance. The build-up drinks will be chock full of whey I would think...check into them as to ingredients.

I would suggest you eat small meals more often...that could help keep your digestive tract a bit active, but not overly. Make sure you get protein, small amounts of meat, eggs, etc.

If you have veggies, eat them well cooked. Rice bread is good if you cannot have any yeast in foods.

I don't know what you'd normally eat....but as your colon heals, you will improve regarding your discomfort.

You could also ask the doctor for some antispasmodics...they do help me. Most of my discomfort is related to food..and of course, when I'm flaring.

Keep us posted as to how you're doing...it'll take a while before your changes show. You could also consider a gas reducer...

Thankyou! Lots of helpful points there...you may be right about the build up drinks, I've been having way less the past couple of days so hopefully that will begin to make a difference. And I'm actually going to see my GP tomoro too so I can ask her about what she can give me then!

I have the same problem. Sometimes I walk around looking pregnant and then finally I use the bathroom a bunch and I am skinny as a stick. I feel skinny today, it's kind of nice but I was also on the toilet repeatedly after eating fish last night, tmi huh?

I also suspect the "build up drinks." I assume you're taking something like Boost or Ensure? These are full of sugar and unhealthy fats.

You can decrease bloating by eliminating or restricting gluten, dairy and sweets. Check out Elson Haas' book The False Fat Diet to learn more about how food intolerances and poor digestion contribute to bloating.
Diagnosed with ulcerative colitis spring 1999.

Maintenance dose sulfasalazine. Probiotics, l-glutamine, vitamin D and fish oil caps. George's aloe vera juice. Oregano oil antibiotic, antiviral, antifungal. Mostly grain-free and dairy-free diet. Long-term remission with only minor blips.
