I was putting my daughters Asacol in her pill box and noticed how much more was left in the bottle....i had been giving her one 400mg pill three times a day. Then i reread the bottle and i was supposed to be giving her 3 X 400mg pills a day.  I feel awful about this although she seems to be doing okay....about 3 BMs a day, and transient belly pain, losing weight....but i realize it could be worse. I guess i should tell her doc and see if he wants me to continue more med rather than stop like he had originally said after 14 days.
I just can't believe with my daughters vitamins she will be taking 16 pills a day....i can see why the compliance with the treatment for this disease is so poor with teens and kids.
Thanks for letting me vent.
Mother of 9 year old with right sided and transverse UC
Diagnosed  2/25/09
Current meds: Asacol 1200 mg three times a day, adult multivitamin, zinc, vit. c, folic acid, B12, probiotics, aloe vera juice when i can get it down her.

Don't be too hard on yourself! It's easy to get things messed up like that. I'd definitely call her doctor and see what he suggests you do. I set an alarm on my cell phone so I'd remember to take my noon dose. It's easy to remember my breakfast and supper doses, since my bottle sits on the table, but when I'm at work, it's hard to remember as my bottle is in my purse!
Symptoms began in November 2008, ~4 weeks after giving birth to my son.
Eased for ~3 weeks in December, possibly b/c of probiotic use?
Returned in January 2009 (with a vengeance), diagnosed with pancolitis on January 30.
Currently taking Asacol (400mg 4 pills 3x daily), Rowasa nightly, Culturelle probiotic, and Zoloft (25 mg).

Hey these things happen! It has even happened to me on more than one occasion - but with my own pills. It gets easier to remember the longer you have to do it - the pill sorting that is.
