I just came across this disease online and it's so similar to UC.  I have the mouth sores and genital sores along w/the gastro ulcers.  I stopped taking 6 MP about 3 months ago and now I'm having horrible pain in my knees, back, and hips.  These are all symptoms of Behcet's.  It probably doesn't matter if I do have it because the treatment is the same for UC since it's an auto-immune disease.  I've never responded to any UC meds and I didn't feel like 6MP was making that big of a difference either.  I started taking LDN about a month ago and have only been on the max. dose for less than a week.  It's so frustrating having all of these health issues, I'm to the point of not even knowing what doctor to see and what to do.  There are just so many symptoms and not one doctor would treat all of them, I would have to go to a doctor who specializes in each thing.  I feel so lost!

When I was in the hospital and DX with UC, I was informed that my doctor had mentioned Behcet's in passing. I had complained of a dry, flaky skin going on. When I asked him about the Behcet's later he blew it off and said I didn't have it, or probably didn't have it. I think the oral ulcers also occur with UC. Do you have genital sores - are they like the oral ulcers? I do not have that. I think many UCers get joint pains also to further complicate things. It really can screw with your mind - these autoimmune conditions - I sometimes think that is what "they" intend to do...
Diagnosed with Ulcerative Colitis 6/2006 at age 26 after sudden E.R. visit
~Pancolitis (Mild to Moderate)
 ~I had Mono in 2000
On Colazal 3x3/day; Folic Acid 1mg; Calcium/Magnesium/Zinc combo
(Generic Balsalazide not as effective for me)
In remission about 2-3 months after E.R. but not back to normal!
I hate Ulcerative Colitis and can't wait till we eradicate it

I've only been getting the genital ulcers for the past 8 months or so.  I've had maybe 3 or 4 of them.  Over the summer, my OB/GYN tested me for herpes because she couldn't figure out what the ulcer was.  The test came back negative.  She was going to biopsy the ulcer but it went away before my appointment.  I get one every couple of months.  I attribute it somehow to me having an autoimmune disease but after reading about Behcet's it seems like I have so many of the symptoms.

I've never heard of this disease. But I can definately relate to who to see, what to do kind of thing! I'm so sorry that you are having a rough time. This disease, is it curable?

Nope, it's not curable.  There are basically the same treatments used for it for UC - immunosuppresants - since it's an auto-immune disease.

Yes, that's the site where I read about all the symptoms being the same as mine.

My oldest daughter has Behcets disease and has had all the symptoms you have described...plus flares of uveitis.  Behcets is fairly rare and not much is known about it.  We are dealing with large doses of prednisone and emuran and a ton of other drugs dealing with depression, pain and everything else that goes along with this mess.  I hope you don't have Behcets but if you do find a good rhumetologist and an even better eye doctor...my daughter has had a total of 6 eye surgeries for glaucoma and cataracts.  Many Behcets patients can go blind from the repeated eye inflammations.  There are so many auto-immune diseases and I hope you don't have any of them.  I never heard of auto-immune before this disease.  The best of luck to you.
