No, this is not toxic megacolon. If so, you wouldn't have BMs at all or gas or even rumbling in your gut. The pain would be excrutiating, too.

Your symptoms sound like a stomach bug or the beginning of a flare, but who am I to judge that. But rest assured, it is not toxic megacolon.

It is, saw. It can kill you if you don't get it taken care of. As people with UC, it's something we're at risk of developing, so it's important to know about it.
Symptoms began in November 2008, ~4 weeks after giving birth to my son.
Eased for ~3 weeks in December, possibly b/c of probiotic use?
Returned in January 2009 (with a vengeance), diagnosed with pancolitis on January 30.
Currently taking Asacol (400mg 4 pills 3x daily), Rowasa nightly, 40mg 30mg 20mg of Prednisone (quick taper), Culturelle probiotic, and Zoloft (25 mg).

I agree with Scarlett. This is not TMC. With TMC your abdomen can bloat, you can run a fever and there is absolutely no sound and no action in the colon.

Your symptoms sound more like IBS:

rumbling abdomen
diarrhea
gas

Due to insurance issues, my colon was in serious condition by the time I was able to see a GI. He gave me medicine right away even though he couldn't give me a diagnosis without doing some tests first. I can tell by the way he acted after the external examination that it was serious. I don't know if I had toxic megacolon. But I had many of the symptoms:

severe dehydration
severe nausea
extreme burning sensation where my colon is
extreme swelling and tenderness of the colon
fever
high white blood count
low blood pressure (100/60 is normal for me though)
higher than normal resting heart rate (which is usually somewhere between 43 and 52).

I was also bed ridden. I couldn't even sit up in bed.

When I'm flaring, my tummy rumbles like crazy, very loudly and almost non-stop. It's really annoying. It's been starting to do it a lot again lately. I wonder my my co-worker on the other side of my cubicle thinks, because she can almost certainly hear it rumbling. The diarrhea and gas are normal UC symptoms for me, too.

Rumbling abdomen, diarrhea and gas can also be symptoms of UC, infact there are many symptoms of IBS that are the exact same as IBD, mucus is another one along with frequency and even urgency, blood is the only symptom that doesn't coincide with an IBD with the exception of bleeding hemmies of course. turnpkegates you should call your doc whenever experiancing new symptoms with having IBD...feel better soon.

Yes. I agree with Sara. You could be showing symptoms of the beginning of a flare. You should get it checked out.
