   Hi:
Haven't posted in quite some time, but am wondering is there anyone out there who had a colostomy due to diverticulitis
and ended up wtih ulcerative colits and diversion colitis afterwards?   And if so what course of treatment is one following:
so far I am on colazal and imuran.  Diversion colitis seems to be rather rare and have yet to find anyone who has been
diagnosed with this.      thanks    dancing deer

uh if you had a colostomy... as in your whole colon removed... there's no way you could have UC? no colon no uc

Latest-Went to ER cuz I couldn't eat for 5 days and was having severe flare up after passing two kidney stones after a week of the flu. (long month)
GI tried to taper me off of pred fairly fast in hopes to keep me on Lialda and at a lower dosage of pred. to try mesalamine enemas again.  Starting the Imuran as soon as labworks done... longer pred time....yippee *rolls eyes*
Medications:Prednisone 40mg Again! (groan)Lialda 4 a day until Imuran
I am so sick of this disease!

   Hi Sweet Melody:

I did not have my whole colon removed:   I had l0 inches of it removed in three different place:  was suppose to have a reversal surgery in 4 months after the colostomy but i had a dvt pe  deep vein thrombus with a pulmonary embolism:  then I ended up with with a visrus that numbed the left side of my face, resulting in a cracked cornea.    Due to the dvt pe was put on coumadin which later ended me up in the hospital again for the 4th tiime due to internal bleeding:   coumadin and colitis do not get along.  So no more coumadin and I had a vena cava filter put in place in that main vein.    But I was diagnosed with diversion colits which entails the rectum and do use canasa suppositories for that :  I am trying to find out if someone has ever been diagnosed with diversion colits and what treatment they are receiving for it.  Does it remain with one for life  or does it eventually  lead to the rectum being remove  In general ones experiences with this:

man you've been through a lot... I wish I could help you... I googled and it sounds like it only happens after surgery... maybe you'll have better luck in the ostomy forum?? it almost sounds though like...they removed your diseased colon and then you just got symptoms of ulcerative colitis in your rectum? i dunno.. maybe try finding a dr that can explain it better or has better knowledge?
