Sigh...well I've been trying homeopathy now for just over a year and while it was a good transition off prednizone from my last flare in dec-Jan. of last year, and it seemed, after getting the right remedy (I tried 6) to work for about 6 months, now sadly I am flaring again. I've been tapering off my Asacol, since it was creating it's own symptoms/side-effects and making it hard to find the right remedy. Now I just don't know what to do.
Should I give up on the homepathy? Go back on Asacol (which didn't keep me from my last flare up anyway)? try something new? have a nervous breakdown?
yeash.
What do you all think?
I just started the sunbutter and spinach diet today. Perhaps tumeric tomorrow?
Its all such a bloody guessing game.
Thanks for responses...

I'm sorry to here that Sherman...with IBD it can be very unpredictable so regardless of the methods used there is never a guarantee that you won't flare again. What about combining your homeopathy with asacol or another oral RX maintenance med, so long of course there's no interaction with any of the homeopathy and the RX you may do very well for possibly longer by combining the two methods. Of course there is no guarantee but it might very well be worth a shot.

I don't see any rectal meds in your signature...is there a reason that you haven't tried them in conjunction with the Asacol?

What symptoms were you having from the Asacol?

I'd consider to start from square one...Asacol and a rectal med (I'd suggest Rowasa if you're in the US..Salofalk or Pentasa if you're not). If you find that 5ASA meds are for sure not working for you, you could consider a steroid enema/foam enema.

Then there are always suppositories.

Do get on a probiotic and a fibre supplement, however.

It's tough being in another flare....but you could try to stay off pred and see if the 5ASA can work for you.....it does take time.

Thanks for the responses
I forgot to update my tag lines...The Rowasa is an enema. After the last flare a year ago I tapered of the enema and stuck with the Asacol for a while but I was often dizzy (though perhaps just fatigue- I have two active boys under 5 and work from home LOL) so I've tapered off that as well. I just know the Asacol didn't keep me from my previous and worse yet flare and the Rowasa enemas didn't seem to do much. For some illogical reason I fear they might make it worse this time. I tried the steroid foam enenma a year ago but ended up quickly on prednisone.
My homepathic doctor is pretty anti-western meds. And my Kaiser doctor is pretty anti holistic (eat anything, stress no factor, etc...that sort of mentality)its hard to go against a doctors will...Im caught in the middle!
Has anyone found sucess with Homeopathy in the long run I wonder?

Well with the natural anti-inflammatories I use I've been doing okay (I'm either allergic or non-responsive to traditional oral RX) I use bee propolis, omegas 3-6-9, vitamins A and C-Calcium Ascorbate, fibre supplements, probiotics and chamomile tea all daily, I did also alter my diet, no processed or fast-foods, animal fats, caffeine, refined sugar/artificial sweetners. and in conjunction with one another I have improved, not full remission but I have complications with my IBD so I don't exepect full remission especially after not having it for my entire 18 yrs of having IBD. Still better than it was before I started using the above mentioned.

I'm not trying to be an instigator here, but you do realize that homeopathy is quackery, right? There's no plausible explanation as to why micro-doses (often non-existent) of something would cause a healing effect in the body. There have been no rigorous studies showing any efficacy beyond placebo either. The only evidence is anecdotal, which really isn't evidence...

I guess it really won't hurt you. That is, if your time and money aren't hugely important.

Even though my GI suggested if I was interested in seeing a naturopath (because he's all for anything that may help and said he had many patience that go that route along with RX and have success) I've never actually seen one myself, I just tried different things that other people on support boards mentione helped them and I'm glad I tried the bee propolis for sure cuz that was the main product that helped me quickly and noticably within a day. You do have to be careful still, there are some things that you may have allergies too (like ragweed for example, then you should avoid chamomile and if you're allergic to bee stings you should avoid all bee products) so you have to be smart about it and research things before jumping into them.

I will say this though, what I spend on bee propolis, omegas 3-6-9, probiotics and the vitamins combined is way cheaper than a script for asacol and many of the other RX usd for IBD.

Also, what works for some doesn't work for all and often it's a combination of things that can be more helpful rather than just one product.

pb4,
While what you are describing may be alternative medicine, it is likely classified as "Naturopathy" and not "Homeopathy", like Sherman Tank was asking about.

Some natural remedies are actually effective.

Ah, yes Chester, thanks for clearing that up I always just figured that homeopaths perscribed natrual anti-inflammatories to people.

I agree.  I have spent truckloads of money on homeopathy and it has got me nowhere. Complete waste of time and money.  If anyone sees any benefit - then they are one of the few to benefit from the so-called placebo effect.  Shame, I didn't.
