My daughter has been in a flare for 3 weeks now. Cortifoam is not working and her Dr has mentioned Methotrexate.  Has anyone here had experience with this drug?  She took 6MP for 2 weeks and developed severe joint pain and had to stop taking it.  She is currently on 2400 mg of Asacol.  Any info would be appreciated.

MTX is mostly used in Crohns patients and I haven't seen anyone here on the Uc forum that uses this (there could be and I just missed it though). You might want to try asking on the Cd forum.

I posted about Meth a couple of days ago but didn't get any responses. I take it and it makes me very nauseated all the time. I take a 15 mg. injection every Friday night and spend the rest of the week quite queasy. The doctor says it is going to help prevent anti-bodies from forming because of my Remicade infusions. However, I feel sick most of the week.
Presently on: 600 mg. Remicade every 4 weeks
                   Venofer infusion every 4 weeks
                   B12 every 4 weeks
                   15 mg. Methotrexate/injection weekly
                   12 Asacol daily
                   10 mg. Celexa daily

Is it helping? How did both of your doctors get it for you? If you know, I am curious as the remicade is not doing it for me

Hi All,

I took Methotrexate from June 2007 to Nov 2007 (~5 1/2 months).  I saw some improvement but not enough to keep me at bay, mind you I was only taking Methotrexate since I can't tolerate 5-ASA's.  I did notice when I took my cortenema in conjunction with Methotrexate I felt a lot better but once the cortenema's were discontinued the Methotrexate helped slightly.

My doctor gave me a prescription for the Meth and also for the very small, diabetic needles that immediately retract after the injection. I have to admit, it is my husband who gives me the injection, I just couldn't do it to myself.

It is very inexpensive. Probably costs about 15.00 for 3 months. It was one of the original chemotherapy drugs used many years ago. The biggest side effect is tiredness and I am nauseated for a few days.

It is a Friday night ritual I endure because the doc tells me it is a good thing. I can't take any of the other pills like Immuran or AZA.. so this is the less upsetting to my body.
