Hello All,

After i started probiotics (Nature's Way, Primadophilus Reuteri Superior) i'm feeling like i'm loosing weight and i can see physically.
But at the same time they helped me in controlling urgency.
So i'm in a confusion of what to do..whether to stop or try other brands?
What do you guys think? Will probiotics make to loose weight?

Please Please advise.........I'm totally confused.........I'm desperatly waiting for your answers.......

Thanks in advance

I doubt the probiotic is causing the weight loss. Probiotics are just bacteria strains. Your weight loss is probably due to your UC. However, based on the information you have provided it's hard to know how sick you are. In my case I lost a lot of weight, 25lbs, in my last flare. I didn't feel sick during the weight loss phase and just assumed that my exercise routine had kicked up my metabolism. It wasn't until about 6 weeks into the weight loss that my UC symptoms went from moderate to severe. Anyway, my weight loss was caused by UC, not the exercise.

I heard this a million times that probiotics seem to help losing weight, but have you stepped on a scale lately to confirm this?

Anyway, I also thought I'd lost weight which I haven't, but it is a fact that probiotics take away the bloating. Thus your pants fit better and you feel slimmer and lighter.

Agree with the previous posters. If symptoms have improved but you truly are losing weight, I'd adjust the diet to include more protein and healthy fats and start a weight training program to help you regain healthy weight. Protein powders and/or meal replacement shakes found in bodybuilding supplement stores might be helpful. Nut butters and avacado are calorie dense and have healthy fats.

Fruits, in general, don't have protein or fat in them. They're mostly carbs (sugar), fiber and water content.

Protein sources are lean meats, eggs, dairy (if tolerated), nuts and legumes. Healthy fat sources are fish, flax, Udo's and olive oil, nut butters, nuts, avacadoes.

All,

Already i lost weight after i started probiotics.
If i still continue taking them, will i loose weight or it is a one time clean up in the colon by probiotics.
i mean probiotics cleans up the colon and tries to maintain good bacteria in the colon.
so my qs is if i eat good food and continue taking probiotics, can i regain my weight? or weight loss continues?

Please respond.
Thanks in advance

Everyone agrees it's not the probiotics that are causing you to lose weight, although they might reduce abdominal bloating, making you appear thinner. Please tell us your height, what you weighed before you lost weight and your current weight.

I would increase daily caloric intake (in other words, eat more) and increase protein and healthy fats. Lean meats, eggs, nut butters, avacado, olive oil... these are all healthy sources of protein and fat, if tolerated. You may also want to look into a predigested meal like Absorb Plus, a meal replacement shake, whey protein isolate or egg white protein powder found in the weight training section of any drug store as supplements to the food you're eating. Weight training, along with the increased caloric intake, will help you put on healthy lean muscle mass, not just gain fat.

Because it's a special predigested shake mix formulated specifically for IBDers, you'll have to order it online:

Hi Princesa,

I'm seeing that we can buy a sample pack of 3 jars value of $17..and each contains 100g

Do we need to take that whole 100g bottle once a day..that means 3 jars for 3 days...

please correct me if i'm wrong...the reason i'm asking is if that is the case i need to order more at a time, bcas he is adding shipping cost which is $13.50...

Please advise...thanks in advance for all your inputs

It's been a long time since I purchased the sample pack. They're not very large, but I do believe they provide more than one serving a piece. Your best bet is to contact customer service at Caramel Holistic Health and inquire:

If you go to http://AbsorbPlus.com you can get Jini Patel Thompson's book "The IBD Remission Diet" and a variety sample pack of the three different Absorb Plus flavors for $14.95. There is a limited quanitity so the special will not last very long.

Princesa is correct. You can get the tubs of Absorb Plus at http://www.holistichealthshoppe.com/index.php#6

Hope this helps. :-)
