My daughter is still in a flare so she is moving on from Cortifoam.  Tonight she will begin Rowasa (generic version) --- what to expect?   We are trying to avoid Pred at all costs.  It looks like after the flare she will be taking Methotrex.  ???   any advice?

Yeah, there are quite a few of us on it, but I guess I just didn't really know what you wanted to know...your question was so general I could write paragraphs about it!
Symptoms began in November 2008, ~4 weeks after giving birth to my son.
Eased for ~3 weeks in December, possibly b/c of probiotic use?
Returned in January 2009 (with a vengeance), diagnosed with pancolitis on January 30.
Currently taking Asacol (400mg 4 pills 3x daily), Rowasa nightly, 40mg 30mg 20mg 15mg 10mg of Prednisone (quick taper), Culturelle probiotic, and Zoloft (25 mg).

Sorry! I guess I didn't really know what to ask! What side effects have you experienced? How long did you take it? She's been on it 2 days and the first day the bleeding was almost gone--I don't mean to be negative but it seems too good to be true!

Exactly..we talk about it all the time. sounds as though her first experience is positive.

I've used Salofalk retention enemas..the same as Rowasa...for over 20 years. I expect them to get me out of a flare. pretty simple.
She should use them nightly for at least 3 weeks to a month...if everything is normal, then taper to every second night.

They should be used for treatment and tapered slowly to a maintenance level.

I haven't had any side effects. Some people have some cramping and discomfort after putting them in, or have a lot of trouble retaining them, but I don't. It made a big difference for me quickly in reducing the number of BMs I was having a day. That's great that she's accepting using an enema. It's kind of gross and can be uncomfortable, even for adults.
