I know I have not experimented long with this diet of 80% raw food, but. about a week ago I had an extremely painful acidy stomach, the muscles in my stomach seemed to be clashing together. I had a fever and was off my food. I had never had a flare this bad and was really scared. I did have some blood and mucus but only a little, however I was going to the loo a lot. I decided to try eating raw foods, but am only currently experimenting and I have not got the diet quite right, (as of yet). but for an entire week the pain in my stomach has dramatically decreased, and I have had no diarrhoea, blood or mucus. If anyone else has experienced a diet like this and found it beneficial or found they got low in nutrients please let me know. My only current worry is that I could get deficient as I am eating little to none of any kind of animal products.

Fish (occasional)

Wheat- (completely cut out)

Dairy- (completely cut out)

Thanks everyone

losts of love

Kitty

you could try this. http://www.colitis-crohns.com/ Has alot of good information on raw diet.
UC since 2006

2009 UC Pancolitis though Primiarly Left Sided, Active Moderate

Current Meds: Lialda 4 tab a day
Predinsone (40 mg a day) since 3/30 Not doing anything, hopefully something soon!

Current Supplements:
Vit. B-12, Vit. D3, VSl#3 Probiotics, Calcium citrate

What does remission feel like, I don't remember!

Nip UC in the bud with diet before it nips you in the bud (or butt) for good!

How long into the diet did your ill-symptoms appear? How long did the symptoms last? Is it possible you were having a Herxheimer response, a type of toxin 'die-off' reaction? That can happen within a week or so of going on a diet free of wheat, yeast, sugar. The symptoms vary with each individual, but are flu-like symptoms...fever, joint pain, D, headache, rash.....

I had such a reaction shortly after going on an antifungal diet. Scared me, too. I thought I would need to go to the ER; I had so much gut and muscle pain, D, fever, and headaches. Lasted about 3-4 days.

The symptoms appeared before the diet. I didn't know about this controversial diet until I was off work for a week and started to research about UC. Once I started the diet it took about 3 days for the symtoms to disappear. I cant say if the diet has done this or not yet or if this was a coincedence.

Who said it was controversial to eat raw foods no wheat or dairy? How would you get low in nutrients eating like this? Just go easy with all the fiber you are probably not used to.
Proctitis DX 1999, Pancolitis DX 2008
Lialda 1 day
Immuran
Golimumab study (100mg every 4 weeks)
Vitamin E Enemas as needed
Probiotis/GreenTea/VitD3+Ca/SuperDHA

The only nutrient you might get low in is iron, but apart from that you should be getting everything, especially as raw fruit & veges tend to be better for you than cooked ones
Diagnosed with Ulcerative Colitis December 2008
Treating with:
-Prednisone (6mg - tapering (slowly...) from 40mg)
-Pentasa x8 a day
-Pentasa enema once daily
Also taking Iron supplements and Multi-vitamins
