I just got back from the doctors, I went wondering if I had TMJ. My jaw has been acting funny and was wondering if it's normal. My mom has TMJ, and she told me to talk to my doctor before it gets worse. So, I did, and yes I do have TMJ. I got the Ulcerative Colitis from my dad, and possibly TMJ from my mom. :( I was told that it's not hereditary, but.... I got both things from my parents.... LOL

Sorry, sweetie. there is a song by Marc Cohn that is titled" The Things We've handed down" that makes me cry. I thought of you. Not too many choices for us parents---we would have you when given the chance, and only regret the crummy, chance gene that twists against the Darwinian logic.
Hang in there.

My parents should not have bred! lol my brothers are pretty healthy but I got stuck with all the crap my parents have! Asthma, allergies, bad knees etc

I have TMJ too. It was really bad when I was younger but has gotten much better since. When I went to talk to an ortho about braces he said that it was probably caused by trauma. He said it might have fallen as a baby and bumped my jaw and it messed it up along with my bite (it was off by a whole tooth). My dentist always asks about it like she's concerned but it doesn't hurt like it did.

Oh no! I'm so sorry. TMJ can be corrected through surgery or mouth guards, right?

My chiropractor did wonders for my TMJ.
27 Year old married female law student (last year!!). Diagnosed w/ CD 4 years ago, IBS for over 10 years before that, which was probably the CD. I am sort of lactose intollerant too but can handle anything cultured and do well w/ lactose pills and lactaid. For crohns I am currently on Pentasa 4 pills/4x day and hysociamine prn. I also have bad acid reflux and have been on PPI's since age 13. I have been through prilosec, prevacid, and nexium. Currently I am on Protonix in the morning and Zantac at night.  I take xanax prn for situational anxiety (aka no easy bathroom access).

Thanks for the info. I went to the dentist once, and she had my mouth propped open for almost an hour while she helped another client. After that, my mouth made clicking noises like the crocodile in Peter Pan. When I went back to see her the following week, I was told she was fired. She wasn't very good. She also messed up the crown she made for one of my teeth. My jaw doesn't make such load noises anymore, but I still have TMJ. Maybe a chiropractor can help.

Don't expect your doctor to cure your health problems. Your health is your responsibility.

Lexapro (for stress), Probiotics and Vitamins (a whole bunch of them)
Avoid HFCS, foods high in fructose, artificial sweeteners
When flaring: eat anti-inflammatory foods, avoid pro-inflammatory foods
Previous treatments: Fecal transplantation (worked), Prednisone (stopped working), Colazal (stopped working), Asacol (stopped working)

I have also collected diseases from my family, one of my brothers has UC, another has migraines, I have both and both much worse then them:) At least for a year now (since I was on prednisone for first time) my migraines are gone, I've googled prednisone and migraine and it looks that they really tried it for that, so there is one thing that is good about my UC, because migraine is the worst thing in the world I know.

Yes, a good chiropractor should be able to help you with that. I have helped the few that's come in for it. It's really neat the stuff we can help with.

Thanks all, I'm just surprised at how much has been passed onto me and not my brother. My mom has a long term splint, so, I'm sure that can help. I don't know how mine was caused though. But oh well. It's life. At least I know why my jaw has been popping since 5th or 6th grade.
