In the last couple of days the news has mentioned they have found that probiotics can benefit those with chronic fatigue and anxiety, and you know now that I think about it my anxiety also improved greatly after starting with probiotics....thankfully I've never had chronic fatigue as a major symptom over my yrs with this DD, I've certainly gone through periods of being tired all the time but not on a day to day, month to month basis or anything that severe.

Still pretty cool info.

I tried probiotics for two years, because of this very forum (and b/c I'm willing to give anything a good try) and one day I ran out and just didn't get around to go purchase any more.  I swear, for me, nothing, didn't notice a difference on them or when I went off, so I just thought I'd save the money.  If there is any substantial evidence/research out there (not from the manufacturer, if you know what I mean) I would really be interested.

I usually have a great abundance of energy. I only have energy issues when I'm anemic. I run out of breathe easily when exercising. My energy is almost all back from my last flare after eating cheerios and taking B-12 vitamins. I have not noticed any effect on my energy level from probiotics, although I do have more energy now that I'm not bleeding, which is from taking probiotics.

I saw it on the rolling news and then it was breifly mentioned by the newscaster on a different channel. I tried to google to see if I could find a link for it but have not been successful as of yet.

Me too subdued, I never noticed it helping with any more energy (though my energy is okay I think because I exercise regularly) but I did notice that my anxiety definitely improved though, but I thought it was also because of exercise (the mind-body connection and how exercise can really help you mentally and emotionally) but I was exercising for a long time before I even got anxiety so I think I have to contribute the use of probiotics daily to the aid of my anxiety issue that I had (which I sure don't miss).

Big Lucy I'm not 100% but I think it's independant researchers that found the benefit of probioitcs with anxiety and chronic fatigue...when I find the link I will be sure to post it.

One more thing BigLucy, the first probiotic I tried never made much of a difference so I switched and found a huge difference, so it's likely just a matter of taking the right one that's suited to your needs, I'm a firm believer that taking probiotics is essential for IBD and IBS, and for anyone really.

My research brought up this study...

http://www.gutpathogens.com/content/pdf/1757-4749-1-6.pdf

All I know is I was given a sample for three weeks of Align from my GI doc.  In a couple weeks my stool was much firmer, more normal.  I tried two others after that including Primal Defense and that did not work as well so back to Align now for about a year.

Hey Shadam, mine contains 5 billion CFU and only one/day is needed, the main thing I noticed was it cut back some frequency...mine also aids with lactose intolerance and it has definitely got my severe lactose intolerance issue completely under control, I no longer have to use lactaid products.

Colony Forming Unit (CFU) basically the amount of bactiera contained in a probiotic supplement.

It's best to try different probiotics to see which ones work for you. Probiotics taken by enema work much better than probiotics taken orally

VSL#3 is working for me, 2 packets a day. This after almost 2 years of endless D, and while now taking cipro for a month. Seems to improve mood too, although relief from D is a bit of a mood lifter too.

23 years of UC which started after quitting smoking. In and out of flares which are usually triggered by antibiotics. Latest issue is endless diarrhea without blood or mucous.
