I was just wondering if anyone else used canasa suppositories while pregnant. I am having a really strange ? of a flare. I have been doing great and for the past week have had constipation with some really bad bms. Smelly gas...but no arthritis pains of stomach pains like i usually get. Yesturday i had some mucuos with blood and no stool for the first time in a long time. I called my high risk ob and they started my on these...anyone else use them?? Im nervous...and don't want anything to happen to the baby because of a flare....any advice would help...thanks

Yes I used them in pregnancy, and my GI told me they are considered safe to use, I also got constipated, which is fairly common in pregnant women, and which I think agrivated the UC alot if I were you I would also ask your Doctor about taking, movicol to make sure you stay regular during pregnancy,it is not at all harsh and safe as well.
and if you have been advsed to take iron supplements,I would really, look out,as these really did me,and it was a while before I worked out they were causing a lot of probs

I also used them during my pregnancy for a time. They are made of the same drug as asacol (mesalamine) and are considered safe for pregnancy. good luck jo

I am not pregnant, though have been told the same thing as to their safety during pregnancy as Joma and Annelise mentioned. I am using them currently though, so thought I would share my experience with them.

I got into a flare after using anucort for roids, and the GI gave me the Canasa. He said they wouldn't work immediately, but they did help right away for me. I have been on them for a few weeks now and the flare is under control.

Good luck with both this flare and your pregnancy!
