I'm having something of a flare, but have had few symptoms the last few days. Yesterday I was a little lax in taking the Asacol I'm on, and I noticed the cramping almost disappeared. Today I went back to taking it as I should, so I'm wondering is it possible the Asacol is causing the cramping? I don't think a few missed pills could be the total problem.

I'm also passing more gas today, and hadn't been before at all. This morning I actually had a near normal stool, and only had to go once today. Actually if I didn't have the cramping I'd feel pretty darn good. Wondering about the increase in gas. Does that mean anything in particular?

It's really tough to say.  I wouldnt think that missing a few pills would have any affect but who knows with this disease.  I'm on Asacol now as well and to be honest with you, after each dose I take, I feel I have to go to the bathroom.  I dont think the drug is doing anything for me.

These 5-ASA drugs like Asacol and Colazal make no sense to me either and how they react to my body. I'm currently doing some experimenting with Colazal. These drugs seem to almost help in some ways (nervous gut feeling), but then make me worse in others (more bleeding and cramping). I don't think my body likes these 5-ASA drugs that much. Personally I think more people are allergic to these drugs than they want to say.
I do take other suppliments like Boswellia, probiotics, vitD, to try and help too.

Hi, For me, gas mean eventually it leads to inflammation. When I experince having gas, I go back what I was taking to fix the gas problem soon as possible. Recently I cut down VSL#3DS three to two. I had gas for three days. I went back to three pkg/day and I do not have gas problem anymore. Yes, spinach/sunflower seed really help me and they are my life saver along with VSL#3DS.

Asacol made my UC worse. Big improvement when I stopped taking it.

I've found that over the last few weeks, things seem to be levelling out for me. I'm beginning to think that perhaps this may be all related to the fact that I have not been taking the asacol quite as directed. Skipping some days and not taking quite as many as prescribed.

I did not have the luck with the enemas like so many others, and am now beginning to wonder if it's not just coincidence that now that I've backed off on the asacol that things "appear" to be even better with my stools...

Not that I'm not without other issues eyes

Asacol made me want to walk in front of a train. Horrible gas, back pain, joint pain, month long fever, didn't want to eat, lost 35 pounds (I thought I looked svelte, my wife said it was more of a cancer patient look) destroyed my immune system which led to a fun infection and a few weeks of antibiotics which gave me more gas and upset the UC. It was a pretty vicious month. Im on Prednisone now and waiting to see what we're gonna try next.
Initial Symptoms SEP 2007.
Bleeding from somewhere I shouldn't be for a year and a half...ehh it will probably go away.
Diagnosed JAN 2009.

Prednisone - Hey this stuff kinda works.
Rowasa - Fun little way to end the day.
Asacol: Not so much!
