Since I had my c-scope on Tuesday, I have not been able to go to the bathroom!  I mean I can go a little bit but that is it.  I can feel things sort of starting to gather in there and it's getting a bit uncomfortable.  I may have to use some Miralax soon if I don't go.  But has anyone else ever have this where they CAN'T go to the bathroom after a scope?

It'll take probably 4 days to get things falling into a proper working order.

The other thing......low in the rectum inflammation can cause constipation. Considering you had some, you might want to use an enema maybe for a night or two then once a week to help get that under control.

Bentyl will help with the spasming and all you can do is wait it out until things resume.

Did you have any bleeding from the biopsies?

Hope your colon gets back to pooping process soon.

Yes, I had this exact problem. I was as bloated as a whale by the 3rd day. Not pretty on a small frame!

Ok, well that is good to know that it's fairly normal to be constipated after a scope.

And Q, the only rectal meds I can use is the steroid enemas and I don't want to resort to them because even though a small amount of steroid enters the system, I am sensitive to any and all steroids now. I would rather wait it out rather then resort to a rectal med right now. And believe it or not, I had no bleeding at all from the biopsies! A first for me :)

yes, horribly so! The last scope I had it was 4 days before I just couldn't take it anymore- my GI recommended Milk of Magnesia, which worked like a charm. No cramps, spasms, pain, gas, etc- just big soft bm's. I highly recommend it! It's funny, we complain about going all the time, but when you can't go at all, it's just as bad- you get so uncomfortable.

diagnosed with UC '02
meds-
Asacol- 8 tabs/day
Remicade-10mgs/kg- since 4/07
Imuran- 150mgs/day
various probiotics
Fiber supplement

I could be wrong but I don't think it's constipation that you are suffering from.  The bowel holds waste for up to 72 hours.  Since you completely emptied your bowel with prep for you scope, there was nothing in there so it will take time to get the stores back up and for elimination to become normal again.
