From what I've read, a lot of people with UC also get canker sores. I personally get them a few times a year (usually when I'm sick). Normally it's not too bad if it's just on the gums, but sometimes I get them on my tongue and they really hurt. I have one of those now, and was wondering if anyone knows a way to make them go away faster.

Oh, I just answered an other post about this. Yes, from what I have read over the years canker sores can be a manifestation of UC. I get them in groups and have never found a way to get them to go away faster.

Have you ever tried glycerine for sores on tongue. Even though in India, we use a natural herb which is used in beetel. I will have to check that. You can find that in any Indian restaurant providing beetel (paan) after the meals. It is that blood red paste which is applied on beetel leaf. It really heals the tongue within one day.

I started getting cankers about 1-1/2 years ago.

Thought I kissed the wrong girl but as it turns out I get them at the onset of a Proctitis/ UC flare. They last for a couple weeks, go away, and then I'm left dealing with a flare.

Oops. You see it is because of UC and not kissing the wrong or right person.

I remember getting canker sores or ulcers in the mouth is how we used to describe them, as a kid.  I did have IBS back then.  When I am starting a flare I usually get one or two in my mouth.  Years ago there was something called Alum which my mom put on my ulcers.  Burned like Hell but did the trick.

Where would I get glycerol? Also, I don't know if any of the Indian places around here serve that.

Glycerine is available with all chemists. It is OTC. It has to be applied with finger on the tongue. It tastes sweet and has no side effect. It gives a soothing feeling and is very helpful to treat canker sores.

I had them all the time as a kid. The first time I had like 30 in my mouth. My mom uses this stuff called Kanka. She get is from the drugstore and it usually helps her, though I've never tried it.

You don't have to steal. It comes very cheap. Hardly 25 cents. Even if you have to steal, don't go to biochem lab, rather catch hold of some TV artist. They use glycerine to show artificial tears for their episodes.
