I have had bad reactions to many many other drugs but this one works quite well.  What are the alternatives to this suppostory and does it work as well?

Have you tried the Rowasa enemas? The same medication, mesalamine, in liquid form. For some reason it is much less expensive than the Canasa, but not as easy to administer.

I really don't understand how they get away with charging so much for the Canasa - with my insurance it's over $3 for each sup.

Be sure to tell your doctor about the expense. Maybe there is some way he can get you some samples.

Last I heard there is no generic-- hence the high cost of Canasa. Once when I was trying to get my rx filler outside of my health care network's system and they quoted me over 300 dollars for a 30 day supply. Having clutched my heart in disbelief, I kindly said no and instantly submitted my rx to the mail-order pharmacy my healthcare prefer I use. It takes some time but well worth the wait.

Canasa worked well for me, too-- having had my ulcer, which was quite lox in my descending colon, move even lower. It made rowasa impossible to use. Once the canasa fix things enough, I could switch to rowasa without the horrible pain of holding the enema in and then things got better quickly.
