I'm on day 3 of 10 mg preds. even splitting it 5mg and 5mg during the day. I'm still inflammaed, bloody diarreah, but maybe less trips to the bathroom. I'm thinking it's not helping so I'm might as well get off it, it's been 3 days. What would you do? I have it for 14 days. Also, would you split or take all at one time?

10 mg. is an extremely low dose of pred, likely not enough to affect your symptoms. Most GI's start you at 40 and taper 5-10 mg. a week.

Prednisone is taken in one dose, preferably in the morning as this is when your body releases its natural steroids.
Moderate to severe left-sided UC diagnosed 2001.

I agree with Judilyn, the dose is too low to have a positive effect.

I agree wtih Judy and Sue. That's a really low dose as your body naturally produces about 7.5 mg of cortisol (the same hormone that's in pred) each day. I'd call your doctor and see about changing the dose.
Symptoms began in November 2008, ~4 weeks after giving birth to my son.
Eased for ~3 weeks in December, possibly b/c of probiotic use?
Returned in January 2009 (with a vengeance), diagnosed with pancolitis on January 30.
Currently taking Asacol (400mg 4 pills 3x daily), Rowasa nightly, 40mg 30mg 20mg 15mg 10mg of Prednisone (quick taper), Culturelle probiotic, and Zoloft (25 mg).

Way too low to have any impact and way to short of a time on them (a waste of your time really) and splitting them is pointless (at just about any dosage) always best to take pred first thing in the early am so you can avoid any nightime sleep issues, but even at 10mg it wouldn't likely affect your sleep.

I agree with all above about the dose and time line - too little for too short of a time to show improvement.

When I am on 40mg of pred, I will split the dose until I get to 20mg. It works better for my body that way - or I end up with hours in the afternoon/evening where I don't get any effect. However, 10mg of pred is too small of a dose to split.
