I realized I'd never updated after my GI appointment on Friday!  Anyway, he's pleased with my reaction to pred (and the fact I had no side effects other than the munchies) and that I gained some weight back.  Since my interview is at the end of next week and I don't want to risk getting bad again, I'm taking 10mg of pred every other day until I'm back from it, then I can just quit.  He wants to see me again at the first of June, and if I'm still doing well then, we'll come up with a plan to taper the Rowasa and Asacol and figure out what my maintenance dose will be.

I asked him about Lialda, but he wanted to wait and get me off of pred first, see how I do, and not do anything to rock the boat for the moment.  He couldn't imagine that Lialda wouldn't work for me as well as Asacol, but he thought it was best to just play it safe for now.
Symptoms began in November 2008, ~4 weeks after giving birth to my son.
Eased for ~3 weeks in December, possibly b/c of probiotic use?
Returned in January 2009 (with a vengeance), diagnosed with pancolitis on January 30.
Currently taking Asacol (400mg 4 pills 3x daily), Rowasa nightly, 40mg 30mg 20mg 15mg 10mg of Prednisone (quick taper), Culturelle probiotic, and Zoloft (25 mg).

It's good that you're feeling better. So all your symptoms are gone then?

Thanks, Sherry. Yes, they are; pretty much have been since the second day I was on pred. I've had some slightly loose stools, but that's pretty normal for me, and I've been eating lots of fiber...berries, grape tomatoes, grapes, refried beans, baked beans, salads, etc. So, it should be a bit loose with all of that!

fruitgirl, thats great news. So you still have loose stools. Can I ask how often? I too have come off the pred and have experienced some loose stools and live in fear that I am going to flare again. I think my doc told me that some times when you come of the pred you get mild symptoms while your adrenals begin to finction normally again.

Well, I'd say that normal for me is relatively loose. It comes out formed, but has a fluffy look to it, if that makes any sense, and mostly breaks up when I flush. That's how it was before I ever got UC, though. I have 1-3 BMs a day. When I was on high doses of pred, it was more formed, but kind of hurt coming out, so I think it was too formed for me. Maybe the pred was constipating me a bit?

Yeah, I found it was more formed when I was on pred too. Strange, sometimes I wonder if I have a kind of permanent, low grade type of inflammation, even when I am in so called remission.

I don't know...I mean, my poo hasn't been that formed in years, unless I hadn't gone in a few days. So that's why I lean more towards slight constipation. I hope that's it, anyway!

Good to hear you're doing so well. Hopefully you can give the Lialda a try in the near future.

Since I have been on antibiotics, I have been having very firm stool. It is to the point that it sometimes it hurts. I used to have D a lot and now it's too hard. I wonder what will happen when I am off the antibiotics? I thought I was going to flare badly and I think I saw a few drops of blood but I am not sure because I am also having my cycle. I don't know what is going on. I just know my stool went from soft to hard but it is still quite urgent although not as bad as it was when I was at my worst.

It's so frustrating not knowing how a med is going to mess with you, isn't it, sicklygirl?

therearemiracles, I think you have me confused with someone else...I've been fruitgirl from the start!
