I have lower colon UC, and this time the Rowesa doesn't seem to be helping the urgency at all,(but has made the blood way less)
I am ready to ask my doc for the steroid emenas(though he seemed reluctant the last time I asked, yet always seems to want to jump to Pred for me %^%$*)
Has anyone found that the cortifoam, helped where the Rowesa didn't?  Do you have to taper the emenas like you do when you're on regular Pred?
Urgency seems to be my biggest and almost my only problem now. (very rarely have D) Of course it's also the worst, as I still can't travel, go out to dinner ect.  It doesn't hit me often in the day, maybe only once or twice.  But when it does, I better be within 60 seconds of a bathroom.

Edited to add, that my morning are no where near as bad as they were either, but I still won't leave the house in the AM.

Ulcerative proctitis. On Asacol 3 3x a day, and Meslamine enemas nightly.
Blood is a bigger problem for mme than D.
Now urgency is still my biggest problem.  rarely have D, but extreme gas and urgency at any given time.

Absolutely! Cortifoam helps me a ton but Rowasa does not. I would try Cortifoam before going back on Pred! (In fact, I've vowed never to go back on Pred for the rest of my life.) You should taper Cortifoam only after you're feeling better. I think that the Cortifoam taper is way easier than Prednisone taper. I never had any trouble stopping. And actually, I've had an excellent doctor tell me not to worry about stopping using it since the steroid absorption is low.

You could also try something like Cortifoam in the morning or afternoon and Rowasa at night.

I hope it works!

Current Meds: 6MP since 2006, Lialda, Asacol foam
Past Meds: You name it; I've tried it. (Asacol, Colazol, Pentasa, DiPentum, Rowasa, Canasa, Cortenema, sulfasalazine, Cortifoam)
Alternative treatments I have had success with: Acupuncture, Hypnotherapy

The Cortafoam has been very helpful in hitting the key bleeding spots. In a bad flare, it is tough to know what is really helping, but we think this did, and are sure the Rowasa did not(it brought on increased BM's and urgency, and was tougher to get in). The foam is much easier to insert, and is quite expensive. We were assured that the Steroid absorption was low, and didn't need to taper. Used nightly for a long time, they switched to every 2, then every 3. Good luck

We're on the opposite path so I am not sure if I can be of any help.  My daughter was on cortifoam for about 2 weeks and switched to Rowasa last week.  It seems to help with the bleeding but she has gone from no urgency and 1-2 BM's a day to having a bit of urgency and 3-4 BM's a day.
She did not taper off the CR but I did see "prednisone-like" changes in her (eating all the time, puffy face, moody)  I hope CF works for you and you get back to living without the urgency. That must be so hard!!
10 yr old daughter diagnosed with "UC-like Crohn's" 12/08
2nd opinion March 2009 - diagnosis UC and not Crohn's
currently on 2400 mg Asacol & Rowasa 1x day

Cortifoam has worked for me when rowasa didnt work. And if it does work, I would definately want to take it over prednisone.
