hi all i am new to these boards but have left a few messages in the last few weeks. i would like to tell my story so if it can help at least one person that is all i would want...

i have been suffering from supposedly proctitis and the dr kept switching my meds and nothing was helping i went for colonoscopy 3wks ago and he told me that it was just in my rectum and i should be ok..well i wasnt. 2 days later the pains were so bad and the bleeding and i went to see him and he said oh its just spasms you'll be fine.. i suffered for 2 weeks until my family talked me into going to see another dr. and guess what? he did a sigmoidoscopy in the office and said i needed to go directly to the hospital. he could not believe how bad the flare was. i stayed 5 days in hospital and now at home trying to get my strength back. please listen to your body and if you doubt the doctor go for a second opinion. i could of lost part of my colon thats how bad it got. i am know on 6mp,prednisone, rowasa ememas, and asacol 12 a day..im feeling a little better but want you all to know to listen to your bodies...we are the only ones who know ourselves..thank you for listening and if you have any questions please ask cause you all helped me in the last few weeks.

Sorry for what you've been going through...you make an excellent point about docs, some of them are too eager to sluff off a patients complaints and people deserve better than that...I've gone through 4 GI's myself (good help is hard to find)...I hope you find relief soon.

:)
My bum is broken....there's a big crack down the middle of it! LOL :)

Thanks for your story. It serves as a reminder that we do have to take personal responsibility for our health and not count on our doctors to do it for us. We are the only ones who truly know our own bodies.
