Maybe pred, depending on how bad your bleeding is.
Symptoms began in November 2008, ~4 weeks after giving birth to my son.
Eased for ~3 weeks in December, possibly b/c of probiotic use?
Returned in January 2009 (with a vengeance), diagnosed with pancolitis on January 30.
Currently taking Asacol (400mg 4 pills 3x daily), Rowasa nightly, 40mg 30mg 20mg 15mg 10mg 10mg of Prednisone every other day, Culturelle probiotic, and Zoloft (25 mg).

I bleed everytime I go (3-4 times a day) ...and have for the past 1 1/2years with no exceptions. asacol and canasa seemed to work for a week and tapered down the bleeding some but then it came back after the 2nd week.

I always bleed a little, even when I would say I'm doing OK. My body makes more. Perhaps that is the best you can expect, too, and stronger meds are not worth getting the blood completely gone.
(I'm happy when I don't have urgency or pain).
49 year old female attorney, diagnosed UC/pancolitis 1985, no surgery but much suffering. Asacol/5ASA 6x400 mg maintenance for 20+ years; use prednisone & Rowasa for flares.
August 2008 sought care of naturopathic doctor. Food sensitivity test showed wheat/gluten, other intolerances; eliminated all wheat/gluten from my diet. Probiotics (Ultimate Flora, 50 billion).
Flaring, seasonal? Back on prednisone, tried to taper but now back up to 30 after several really bad days. Humira denied, waiting for approval to start Remicade.

It can take time (months for oral meds) before your meds kick in.

Hi..it does take time for the meds to work, but you really aren't on enough rectal meds anyway.

You should firstly try the 5ASA retention enema...Rowasa if you're in the US....and then if that's not working, using the steroid enemas in either liquid or foam (nicer to use) would be the next step.

You've not treated it enough with 5ASA before even considering pred...in my opinion.

I'm bleeding everyday and this is THE ONLY ONE symptom I have! I refuse Pred, but I use cortifoam, and it takes my bleading avay for sometime...but after I stop using it, blood comes back :( I'm starting spinach and subflower seeds diet, and low residue diets now...Hopefully it will help!
Diagnosed with left-sided UC on Sept 08 Colazal 5x2day, Lialda 2 per day (so unusual to take just 2 pills)
Canasa 1 supp. every nigh Cortifoam 1 at night
Vitamins: Zinc, B complex, Fleexsead Oil capsules, Multi. Digestive Enzymes (helps a lot)

I agree with Quincy. Also you could try using the Canasa morning and night and see if that helps at all.
Diagnosed with proctitis in March 2007 - Treated with Canasa 2x Daily
Diagnosed with UC December 08 but had symptoms months ago - Treating with Asacol 400mg (9 a day)
