I barely went to the bathroom yesterday, it like all built up durining the day. I went to the bathroom A LOT at 1am then again at 7am, I had a few bites of bananna and made myself some freshed squeezed juice from my juicer, stawberry, apple and carrots. I'm so sick, I fell like barfing and I've already pooped again. I'm on Pepto Bismol, is this ok for UCers? I feel so terrible today. I don't even feel like taking my prednisone, which I only have 10 days left, is it ok to take my 10 mg ever other day or should I continue to take it every day? Is it ok to take Pepto Bismol. Seriously, If I didn't have a good job, I would consider getting on social security b/c my bad days out weigh the good it seems. I never have a GREAT day, they are just OK. This LDN has not really kicked in yet, my mood seems better on some day but today b/c my gut is so messed up, I just feel crappy. Yesterday I had more sugar than normal (3 cookies (not large) and some jelly beans).
Very mild left sided (could have fooled me with the "mild")  UC. STARTED LDN ON 1/25/09. Supplements:  Cod Liver, Probiotics, multi whole food vitamin, olive leaf extract.

Well I know people with Microscopic Colitis actually take Pepto Bismol to cure it, or put in remission. For Ulcerative Colitis I have taken it and not sure if it helps, but it is pretty much not going to hurt you unless you take too much it may bind you up. It can make your stools blackish looking as well, so don't be alarmed if you get blackish looking stools. My mom have very mild colitis and takes it and seems to help her somewhat.

I am sorry you feel so badly. You're sick today because the disease is unpredictable. It doesn't have anything to do with what you ate. Sugar can make bowel movmements looser but it's not going to make you naseous or to the point of vomiting. Your disease is probably in the moderate to severe range and I don't think you will see much improvement until either your new drug kicks in or you move on to something else. I can't advise you on the prednisone question but hopefully someone else will.

Don't change your prednisone dose without talking to your doctor first. Not sure why you wouldn't want to take it as I don't see how it could make you feel worse. If anything, it should be helping you.
Diagnosed with ulcerative colitis spring 1999.

Maintenance dose sulfasalazine. Probiotics, l-glutamine, vitamin D and fish oil caps. George's aloe vera juice. Oregano oil antibiotic, antiviral, antifungal. Mostly grain-free and dairy-free diet. Long-term remission with only minor blips.

Thank all of you for listening and your suggestions. I'm trying to eat a littel now. I took my pred just b/c I know I feel a little bit better on it. Today I overnight my Doctor's Data comprehensive stool test ($350 dollars) so maybe that will shed some light on yeast or something. Thank you again, blessings. Linda

It should be fine to take the Pepto and the Pred near the same time. Do you know for sure that you don't have some sort of flu bug? Maybe it's not the UC causing the problems right now, maybe you have a stomach bug. My daughter had it last week and so did my friend's daughter. There were 4 kids absent from my daughter's class with it too. I'm just suggesting it because it sounds like these new symptoms came on suddenly. I get occasional nausea from UC but never vomiting from it.

I hate to say it but it sounds like this 10 mg of Prednisone is really just toying with you. I've never heard of anyone starting on such a low dose. To nip a flare in the bud, it's best to just go for it and do the 40 mgs. I would also consider the cortenemas. I started them over a week ago and after the first day or two, I felt 100% better. I feel like doing the 10 mgs. is just prolonging things for you.

I was feeling good yesterday and I ate a lot. I know when I take the Pred, soon after about a hour I start to feel a whole lot better. I just went on a mile walk with my dogs and no sense of urgency. I'm going to try one last thing and it's something we can't talk about on the forum, I've read some have gone into remission from this. I will try it. I submitted my Doctors Date stool test today, that should be done within the week. I have my allergist appt next week Weds so I can't wait for that as well. After all this I'm done trying to find my cure. I've spent over $30,000 on 14 doctors and supplement in 4 years and after the next two weeks, I will know it's either some allergan or its not and it's just UC and then I can deal with the meds once more.

I will keep you posted.

Thanks for listening and thanks for the advice and comments, when you're having a tough day it's nice to hear some encouraging word from your email pals here at HW.

Blessings,

Linda

So sorry you are not well today. I am not sure about the Pepto, maybe your pharmacist or doctor could answer that. I know that I can't eat too much fiber at one time or I will be miserable. Strawberries are out b/c of the little seedlings on the skin. If the pain gets bad enough, I will throw up too.

Do you also feel real down in the dumps when your stomach is upset? I do big time. I can almost tell by the way I feel when I get out of bed if I am gonna be sick that day by my mood. My body just gives me other signals such as a rapid heart rate or bad dreams when I am going to be sick. It usually wakes me up very early in the a.m.

Good luck and I hope you feel a lot better very soon.

I've taken Pepto on Prednisone and I actually had one of the best movements in my life. Could have just been coincidence but it was a wonderful coincidence.
Initial Symptoms SEP 2007.
Bleeding from somewhere I shouldn't be for a year and a half...ehh it will probably go away.
Diagnosed JAN 2009.

Prednisone - Hey this stuff kinda works.
Rowasa - Fun little way to end the day.
Asacol: Not so much!
