Hi Lucas, and welcome to HealingWell. I've had the bleeding gums before, but it was when I was on prednisone. What meds are you on right now? That might help us help you a bit more. :-) Glad to have you join us!

i am on pred right now....but gum problems started prior to taking pred.  a few weeks back, i had several places at once pop up on my gums....kinda like gingivitis, but it erodes my gums.  the dentist did not think anything about it....i had my teeth cleaned a week or so later and they had pretty much cleared up...but now they are getting aggitated again....he gave me a mouth wash to use...maybe helping idk.  i don't know if it is related or not...to uc....could be stress...i hear it can get your gums messed up....my uc is clearing up right now....few days on pred seems to really help....getting off it real quick now.  I just wondered if anyone else has had gum problems like me related to uc...

Hi, I had gum problem before. But ever since I start to take VSL#3DS, I am ok with gum. I usually leave probiotic in my mouse for a few seconds. Even my family catch cold, I do not catch cold since then.

As long as the mouse is not harmed in any way, I suppose it's ok bonsai...

When I'm in a severe UC flare, I will get canker sores in my mouth or my gums might get really sore. I don't believe my gum issues are medicine related as I am only on Lialda in addition to my remicade infussions.
GeminiSunset
Diagnosed w/IBS: Oct. 2006
Diagnosed w/UC: Jan. 2007 (proctitis), July 2008 (pancolitis)
Medications: Canasa (helped the first flare when it was just proctitis); Rowasa enemas (did not help as the following colonoscopy confirmed pancolitis); Lialda (2 pills in the morning, 2 pills in the evening, soon to be 2 pills in the morning only once I'm off steriods); Prednisone; Protonix (only took while on prednisone); Remicade infusions, started at 5mg/kg, increased in March to 7.5mg/kg (started Aug 2008 - 6 infusions so far, next infusion on 4/30 continuing every 8 weeks); Zyrtec-D (for allergies); Toprol (a generic form, 25 mg, for a rapid heart rate)
Supplements: Women's One-a-day multi-vitamin; Super B-complex w/vitamin C, Iron supplements, Omega-3 Fish Oil (coated, not sure how much except one soft-gel daily), Aloe Vera supplement (two daily), Acidopholis
Diet: Spinach and Sunflower seed butter diet (starting 3/21/09)
Current Status: Reached remission for a few weeks in October 2008, but symptoms returned after I allowed myself to enjoy wine again.... gave up wine and have not been in full remission again yet.
