I have a big weekend planned to go drink wine in Napa this weekend and of course I'm flaring!   Does anyone have any advice on avoiding Red wine vs White Wine?   Has drinking tons of water in addition to the wine helped anyone!

Then the next weekend I have my annual party weekend with all of the friends from college, where drinking will be necessary.  I thought I could just stick to Vodka, but for some reason when I'm on Prednisone and I drink vodka, my face gets really hot and turns bright red.   Should I try Gin?

The prednisone is working well, and I have just slight traces of blood, and I'm supposed to start tapering from 60 to 40 next week, but I dont want to take a step backward.

Anyone who can offer some advice would be a saviour!

Thanks,
28 Years Old.

Wineries have nice bathrooms thankfully! Trust me, I know. I traveled through Napa flaring.

I don't know which wine is better for a flare, I find that when I am in a bad flare, anything that goes in, comes out fast and furiously. It doesn't matter what it is in my case.

I wish you the best of luck. Enjoy yourself and try not to stress. The more I stress, the more my tummy cramps up. You could try immodium? I've never tried it but I have seen people here speak of using it for special events. Are you on any rectal meds?

I'm learning red wine always makes me bleed worse.
But I don't usually have to deal with that until the next day...so I might drink what I wanted in Napa!
And know the next day may be a little rough.

Are you going from place to place in Napa? That's what worries me when I do that. Don't pass by a bathroom! And once the little bus we rented broke down and the bathroom where we pulled over was out of service...and I was hosting a group of politicians...I was privately in a panic, but survived.

Try to "taste" in moderation, especially since you don't want to get worse now.
And an immodium might be a good idea, for the day.

49 year old female attorney, diagnosed UC/pancolitis 1985, no surgery but much suffering. Asacol/5ASA 6x400 mg maintenance for 20+ years; use prednisone & Rowasa for flares.
August 2008 sought care of naturopathic doctor. Food sensitivity test showed wheat/gluten, other intolerances; eliminated wheat/gluten from my diet. Probiotics (Ultimate Flora, 50 billion).
Bad flare in March, seasonal? Back on prednisone, 40-30-25-20-15... Humira denied, started Remicade 4/12.

My advice is that drinking is never necessary...
Symptoms began in November 2008, ~4 weeks after giving birth to my son.
Eased for ~3 weeks in December, possibly b/c of probiotic use?
Returned in January 2009 (with a vengeance), diagnosed with pancolitis on January 30.
Currently taking Asacol (400mg 4 pills 3x daily), Rowasa nightly, 40mg 30mg 20mg 15mg 10mg 10mg of Prednisone every other day, Culturelle probiotic, and Zoloft (25 mg).

It's hard to say, I've noticed with me that each time on pred was a little different, I never drank when on pred but I totally get where you're comming from, it's necessary for you to have a good time which includes drinking because realistically there are certain events that call for indulging in booze from time to time...but since you know what issues you've had in the past with drinking and pred, try and limit how much you indulge....of course you don't have to get blasted to have a good time and under the circumstances you'll have decide for yourself (no one can tell you) if drinking too much will be worth the possible risks that may come along with it. That said, if you happen to be taking flagyl then do not drink at all (or any antibiotic for that fact).

Hope you have a great time!!!

My bum is broken....there's a big crack down the middle of it! LOL :)
