An update on my g'son:

He was hospitalized again 8 days ago (2nd time);  was 'scoped and his GI now figures he has severe Crohn's/UC.  His 'scope pictures showed the entire colon to be severely ulcerated, inflammed and scarred.  The GI didn't go into the small intestine.

So do I stay with the UC thread or do I switch to the CD thread?

The hydrocortisone med has not helped him at all this time.  He has a deep, open, bleeding cracks on his anus that are causing horrible pain which they are giving him some kind of "gel" for!  He has hemroids as well.  They put him on Morphine but he had a bad reaction to it so is now on Oxycodone (possibly also allergic to this as he is starting to "itch" again).

This Tues. he is starting Remicade infusion.

Oxycodone is a narcotic so we are concerned about the possibility of him becoming dependent on this drug.

How do others on this forum cope with "fissure" pain?   Is this what they call the open, bleeding crack in the anus?

PS:  this morn his GI changed her mind and decided to put him on Himuran (sp?) instead of Remicade;  will start treatment on Tue.

I believe you may be referring to Imuran?  I am on 6MP for ulcerative proctitis.  How old is your grandson?  I feel soooooo bad for these young people who suffer so with this awful illness.  I was 52 when diagnosed, but always had IBS.

Hi Christine1946:    I'm sorry - I messed up ....  the PS:  should read "Humira" not Himuran....   I wasn't sure how to say it or spell it but went online and looked it up.   It is the same kind of drug as Remicade, I think only, I hope, "not quite" as scary!  My g'son is 19 yrs old.   From one grandmother to another, I would die a thousand deaths if I could take away my g'son's disease!  And, you know, 15 or 52...   it's still a nasty "lemon" to be served in your life.  Glad to hear you are in remission!

PSA.Delhi:  Thankyou so much for your prayers.   The more the better.   Much appreciated.  You have certainly had your share of nasty experience and complicatons that go along with this disease.   My heart goes out to you.

Samynic:  I needed to hear that!  Thank you so much.  You and my grandson are very close in age.  It's strange that you both were diagnosed in Dec 2008....   wow!  Was that the month of the Listeria and Ecoli food recalls in the USA and Canada?  Hmmmm...   So, how are you managing now?
