I recently had almost every blood test known to man done since I am on the Aza and my B12 and Folic Acid levels were almost completely nil. I was told that by B12 level was 109 on a scale of 118-1100 so I am going to have to do weekly B12 shots as well as oral pills. She didn't give me my folic acid level she just stated that is was off scale low as well and gave me a prescription for folic acid pills as well. I was told by my acupuncturist that the B12 will help with the muscle spasms and twitches that I have been having. I also have tiny sore like blusters on my tongue and the inside of my lips as well as a kind of film over my tongue making food taste different. I was just wondering if anyone else had experienced anything like this. I read that being low on B12 can cause the tongue to crack and be sore but it didn't say anything about the other stuff.
I found some old posts where people wrote that they had a metallic taste in their mouth for a couple months after starting Azathioprine so that may be the cause, but I think it might also be thrush which can be caused by a low immune system. Hmmm, I wonder if I have a low immune system with the aza and pred and everything else. Someday...someday I will be normal again. So lets see...thanks to the pred I have gained almost 30lbs all of which seems to be in my gut, my face is so big from the moon face that every time I see my mom she just stares at me like she is waiting for me to pop, my legs swell so much that I can barely lift them to walk by the time work is over, I have the big swollen mass on the back of my neck and now I have thrush. Oh what a beautiful day to go bury my head in the covers and not come out. Sorry, just had to cry a little and give myself that 5 minutes of feeling sorry for myself, and now it's time to move on. Thanks for listening.
