I take Bentyl, which is a anti-spasmodic, and it will help with cramping. If I have gas, I use Gas-X which seems to work fairly fast. And if I have the left sided pain that comes from Uc, I use Tylonel and a heating pad but if it gets too bad, I take Darvocet.

I've never taken anything for the pain, which during a flare usually is really bad only when I'm moving my bowels. I just focus on doing what needs to be done to get out of the flare, because then the pain will stop.
Likewise, I'm not sure if anything can help with the discomfort with bloat, other than resolving the bloat.
49 year old female attorney, diagnosed UC/pancolitis 1985, no surgery but much suffering. Asacol/5ASA 6x400 mg maintenance for 20+ years; use prednisone & Rowasa for flares.
August 2008 sought care of naturopathic doctor. Food sensitivity test showed wheat/gluten, other intolerances; eliminated wheat/gluten from my diet. Probiotics (Ultimate Flora, 50 billion).
Bad flare in March, seasonal? Back on prednisone, 40-30-25-20-15... Humira denied, started Remicade 4/12.

I have a Rx for Nulev. Also I have found that (OTC) Digestive Advantage IBS helps with cramping.
31 yr old female currently breastfeeding (weaning so I can start 6mp)
Mild Pancolitis
I've had UC since 2000 but was in remission for most of those 8 years med free
Cannot tolerate mesalamine - starting 6mp soon

I started taking a combination of pills each time I eat - therefore three times a day. It doesn't matter what I eat, but I get pain in my belly that travels around to my lower back. Since I have started pre-empting the pain with the following combination, I have gone 3 weeks without pain after eating. I take 3 Asacol, 3 simethicone tablets, 1 or 2 Tylenol. Occasionally I need a Zofran but my special "cocktail" has really helped.

All these are medications I am regularly on. The difference is that I group them together and take them immediately after eating. I think most of my pain was the gas produced by eating. I eat a very limited diet including baby food fruits and vegetables, fish, chicken, rice, pasta...

You might want to give this "cocktail" a try to see if you can head off that pain.
Presently on: 600 mg. Remicade every 4 weeks
                   Venofer infusion every 4 weeks
                   B12 every 4 weeks
                   15 mg. Methotrexate/injection weekly
                   12 Asacol daily
                   10 mg. Celexa daily
                   Zofran as needed

If eating causes you pain in your belly, you might want to get food sensitivity testing.
When I eat something that I have tested intolerant to -- like wheat/pasta -- I get belly aches (and bloat). I'm thinking it's better to know, than to mask it with extra drugs!

I have had UC since 93 now. Doctors have changed me from Chron's to UC several times. I have been on Asacol 400mgx6 pills per day which did nothing. I started pain killers which threw my colitis into remission immediately. Unfortunately, I started on a few Percocet per day which quickly esclated up to Roxicodone 30mgx10 per day in order to keep my colitis under control...{This cured my colitis, however I would never want anyone to go through what I did just to get off pain killers, so Please Dont Try IT} My life was useless... I started Low dose Naltraxone and honestly, it seems like Im going to be alright...I had my doctor change me to the newer asacol which is taken once a day instead of 3 times per day. I am going for my colonoscopy next week and need to know which probiotic is the best for UC. My doc has mentioned "Align"..Has anyone heard of it? Or does someone know something better? I really am so sick of looking for the bathroom the minute I enter a new establishment.. Im happy to see all of you on here.. I dont feel alone. Im suprised everyone is dealing with this so well.. I must admit, I hate this disease!

Any suggestions?
