I was on Asacol about two weeks ago.  I was on it for a week and started to get a rash.  They put me on Lialda for about a week and a half now and I am getting sever stomach pain and red bags under my eyes and I itch on my face, arms, and chest.  Getting a rash on my face.  My symptoms have got worse on Lialda.  My symptoms were better on Asacol.  My question is should I try the Asacol again or not and is there anything I can be on besides prednisone if I can't tolerate Asacol and Lialda.  I hate to go on such a strong drug when the Asacol was working.  I'm just afraid to try it again if I've had such a bad reaction to Lialda.  Any advice would be great.

They will probably have you try Colazal next. Hopefully that will work for you. If those don't work they will try 6mp. That has been the protcol for me at least.

I agree that they may have you try Colazal or if you aren't allergic to sulfa maybe Sulfasalazine. I have become intolerant of mesalamines (which Asacol and Lialda are) - not rashes but massive intestinal pain, flu-like feeling - so I switched to Colazal and I seem to do fine on that.

I a currently using Colazal, Asacol worked ok for a while for me then I seem to get allergic to it. Colazal may be giving me some side effects not certain, but not to the degree Asacol was.

Do you think I should ask my doctor to put me on the colazal?  He wants me to go on Prednisone and azrominathan. He hasn't even had me do blood work for it.  He was going to put me on that and I said don't I have to have blood work done(that's what I read on here).  The nurse said oh yeah you should.  Then they tried Lialda.  I haven't had any blood work done yet.  Should I even take the prednison and azrominathan before I have blood work done?  I stopped taking the lialda last night.  I can't stand the stomach pain and under my eyes look horrible.  My D has also got really bad.  Thanks for the advice and for the replies.  I appreciate it.

OMG I'll never forget when they put me on Asacol, after only one dose of 4 pills a few hours later I broke out in a body rash from head to toe, was nauseated, with a fever and chills, weak and dizzy and a headache too though I was gonna die LOL.
Hope you find something that helps.

My bum is broken....there's a big crack down the middle of it! LOL :)

Yes I would seriously request trying Colazal. It is pretty expensive drug without insurance though, Why I may need to switch to Sulfasalzine.
Just as a side note, I only took 2 pills of Colazal 3 times a day, most doctors will probably tell you 3 pills 3 times a day. The 2 pills seem to help, taking 3 pills seem to make me worse actually. It's like trying to balance allergic side effects with the benefits.

Thanks everyone for the advice.  I have a doctors appointment Wednesday and I will ask about the Colazal and I'll see what he says.  I stopped taking the Lialda and my stomach still hurts but not to the extent it did yesterday or the day before.  I still have itching and a rash.  My D had decreased by alot.  Again thanks for the advice.
