I don't know what's going on, but I have a permanent salty taste in my mouth since a whopping 5 days! It is there constantly and nothing helps: Drinking more water, brushing teeth, eating mints. I haven't changed toothpastes or mouthwashes and such things. I am due for my 6MP CBC and liver test today.

Can 6MP cause that? And if so, why now? I am taking 6MP since 5 months. Anyone an idea?

I also have an appointment with my GP tomorrow. Also, I am very weak and fatigued, could sleep all day, my body aches, my muscles ache ... .

Anyone had that salty taste before?

Gee, I have been on 50 mg. 6MP for 6 weeks and now 75mg. for one week - no salty taste - at least yet!  By the way, are you on 50 mg. for maintenance and how is it going as far as your UC goes?  I guess you could get side effects at any time.

Could it be oral thrush? I just had that with my last round of pred. It was a mild case but I could tell something wasn't right!

Nope, never had any salty taste from the 6MP.  I've had my share of thrush from the prednisone...but to me it didn't taste salty.   Thrush will give your tongue a thick coating.  Don't worry...you will know if it is thrush.

Update 11/03/08...finally in remission!!  Hope I don't jinx myself.  Off the prednisone since 11/01/08...now see if I can stay off for longer than two weeks.  Other meds: 6MP (75 mgm), colazal (6 per day), Benicar and Toprol (high blood pressure meds), Probiotic (2 per day), fish oil capsule and multi-vitamin and calcium with vitamin D.

I've been taking 6MP for years and have never had any kind of salty taste. Could it be from something else?

I don't have any coating on my tongue. I am totally clueless what that could be, but let me tell you: The salty taste is annoying and nauseating! I am hoping that I have a sinus infection, because I constantly have pressure on my sinuses, headaches and when I use the neti pot and saltine rinse, I have a foul odor coming out of my left nostril. Could be that I have drainage from the sinuses - just a guess. Maybe I am cracking up now, who knows ... skull .

Elaine, I am doing fine otherwise on 50 mg for maintenance - no UC problems so far (knock on wood). I will have to wait for the results of my bloodwork again, just came back from the blood drawing.

Thanks for the replies!
