I go for my second colonoscopy in less than a month on Monday.  The first was incomplete due to severe inflammation and adhesions.  The "official" diagnosis is still nonspecific chronic mild to moderate colitis with moderate edema.  The inflammation extended continuously for 35 cm, but this was as far as they could advance the scope.  I also have multiple diverticula in the sigmoid.  My GI referred me to a specialist because he couldn't complete the scope and says that my case is "complicated."  I also have adhesions from multiple pelvic surgeries.  I want to be able to ask informed questions after the colonoscopy and have a firm grasp on exactly what I am dealing with.  Please help me compile a list of the right questions to ask as I know I will be a little "out of it" when I get to talk to him.  Thanks so much to all of you for being here.

If you have someone to go with you that is really the best suggestion. My wife did a bunch of research when we went and was able to ask a lot of questions. I don't think "out of it" was quite the words I would have used to describe the condition I was in. I really just wanted to get up walk around, and apparently make **** comments about my dutch doctor (I really don't remember any of that but my part dutch wife sure did). Good luck with #2 I'm waiting to get mine, I had the same issues with mine and I think he stopped about the same area. Oh and I see you were on Asacol too, that was a fun week I don't know about your side effects but I was contemplating taking a knife to my stomach and just removing everything in there, thank god we stopped that real quick. Good luck and let us know how it goes.

My husband will be driving me. We are working on developing a specific list of questions. I like this doctor, but he doesn't volunteer much, so to get answers you really have to know what questions to ask! You are right about Asacol. It was the sickest I have ever been!

If you're still not officially DX I would ask if the inflammation was patchy (skipped patterns of inflammation with healthy tissues in between are indicative to crohn's, specifically crohn's colitis when the colon is involved) or if the entire area was inflammed (indicating UC), I'd also ask if the inflammation was on the surface of the intestinal lining only (indicative to UC) or if it went deeper into the intestinal lining (indicative to CD). Good luck!

My doctor was the same way. Didn't want to reveal too much until he knew. On my report (I don't know if they are all the same) there was a little code on it and I googled the code and that gave me some insight as to what he was thinking (which was UC), so really...I am bringing nothing to the table here.
Initial Symptoms SEP 2007.
Bleeding from somewhere I shouldn't be for a year and a half...ehh it will probably go away.
Diagnosed JAN 2009.

Prednisone - Hey this stuff kinda works.
Rowasa - Fun little way to end the day.
Asacol: Not so much!
