I totally understand how you feel newmom2008. My husband and I both have UC and it's not the going to the bathroom a 100 times a day, or the diahhrea, but it's the cramping that just kills us both. The only thing that really works for us like you said is prednisone. I hate it, but it works. My GI doc also put me on sulfasalizine which helped significantly improve my UC. Made it more tolerable if you will. I know exactly how you're feeling though, there have been times were I could barely walk the cramping was so bad. All I know is prednisone. My husband has been on just about everything you can think of these last 2 years, and nothing has really helped him either. He also can't be on prednisone very long as he starts to develope muscular myopathy(sp) from it. So please let me know if you find anything that helps. Best of luck to you, and I'll keep you in my prayers.
Alaina - age 26
Ulcerative Colitis-- Diagnosed when I was 16. (It has it's ups and downs)
Chronic Hives (my newest endeavor) :)
Prednisone (30 mg and tapering was on 80 mg --for hives, not UC (but my UC is great right now because of the prednisone)), Xyzal (every 12 hours), Atarax (every 6 hours), Pepcid (every 12 hours), Doxepin (at bed time), Levothyroxine (.50 mg), and Ativan if needed, but I haven't really used it. I also have been loving Aveeno Oatmeal bath, and their calimine lotion when all else fails!
How did I go from being on no meds 3-4 weeks ago, to being on all of this now??? Just crazy!! :)
