Has anyone been prescribed Hyomax as an anti-spasmodic? I have heard of others but not this one.

For him saying I'm in remission from the colonoscopy.... does 30 biopsies seem like a lot to you!?

Is it normal for me not to be having any gas after a colonoscopy?
Kara, 22F Married.
Latest-Went to ER cuz I couldn't eat for 5 days and was having severe flare up after passing two kidney stones after a week of the flu. (long month)
GI tried to taper me off of pred fairly fast in hopes to keep me on Lialda and at a lower dosage of pred. to try mesalamine enemas again.  Starting the Imuran as soon as labworks done... longer pred time....yippee *rolls eyes*
Medications:Prednisone 40mg Again! (groan)Lialda 4 a day until Imuran
I am so sick of this disease!

Hi!!

I had a colonoscopy and had quite a bit of gas right after the procedure. However today I really haven't had much at all...so maybe it all depends on your body. Im just glad its over now! Congrats on being told you are in remission...that must feel nice. 30 biopsies does seem like a lot but maybe they just want to make sure. I supposed to start imuran but am waiting on my blood test still and then supposed to come see him...until then he wants me on prednisone to try to get the bleeding under control. Haven't been on that yet but read all about it...im soo excited (sigh)!
Diagnosed w/crohns in October 07

thanks on the remission... i guess i'm just sorta shocked about it because i'm still going 5-6 times a day, but he says it could just be the IBS so... oh well. Thing is when I take Immodium i get stopped up... and I haven't tried this new anti-spasmodic yet.... but from what I'm reading there's an awful lot of side effects sheesh.

I dunno I'm still just sorta like...well crap now what. I went from severe UC to remission? Pred does that, but now he wants me to taper down...which I've started... and I'm scared that it's just going to bring the UC back. I don't really like my new GI.. I've only been to one visit with him before the colonoscopy... so...

He doesn't seem to care about me...he makes me feel stupid.. he talked more to my husband than to me... and is just really condescending. We'll see how that ends up.

Latest-Finally tapering off prednisone 5mg every week.. Staying on Lialda 2 twice a day. Currently colonoscopy shows remission. Apparently my symptoms are from my IBS side of my issues.
Medications:Prednisone 35mg, Lialda 2 twice a day, Align probiotic, Anti-spasmodic as needed.

Have you thought about switching doctors? You should have a good working relationship with your doctor in order for you to get the best out of treatment. Some doctors just don't have a bedside manner. I take Bentyl for the anti-spasmodic and it works really well for me. The only side effect I get from that is that it makes a bit spacey sometimes. 30 biopsies is normal especially if you've had a severe case. My doc said he took biopsies every 5cms and if you add that up, it's alot but then again the colon is 7 feet long (I think it's 7', it's early in the morning here and I'm just waking up! LOL). So at least he's being through. I had gas right after the scope but only a little when I got home. By the end of the evening I had no gas at all.

I have beaten all records. I had over 100 polyps, and 75 were removed and sent for biopsies. Mine used to be normal affair after every six months. It was pain in my ar.... Gas/wind is quite normal after the colonoscopy. The doc wants to make sure that all is well inside and that is why 30 of them.

Well Sherry, the problem is I JUST switched to him. I LOVED my old GI, but she was all the way in Fort Worth.. and it was hurting my health to not be able to get to her when I needed to.

So she recommended this guy... who supposedly is one of the best in the area... and is literally across the street from me. I'm gonna give him a chance... if he continues to be a prick I'll find someone else.

When I asked about anti-spasmodic meds... he looked at me like where did you get that from? and my husband goes... "she reads a lot on the internet" and the doc actually rolled his eyes!!!! I almost cried I was just like...SERIOUSLY? I felt so stupid, but what I should have said before he hastily left was that I've had this disease for years... OFCOURSE I read online about it! ugh.

I do think the Align has been a big factor in stopping my diarrhea so long ago.  I have been taking it for almost a year.  I tried Primal Defense and one other but went back to Align - works for me. Just remember it might give you a little extra gas until your system adjusts which might be a couple weeks or so.

Yeah, all of my GI's have sort of gotten that look on their faces when I talked about an on-line support group or the internet. I think that's because there is a lot of unproven or just plain nutty information out there. When you think about it, any one of us could write here, in a blog or in any of hundreds of other sites that IBD is caused by a cold, distant mother. Or by not eating our bread crusts when we were kids. Or by a curse.

HyoMax is a brand name for hyoscymine, which other people have reported taking. Other brand names for this active ingredient include Symax, HyoMax, Anaspaz, Buwecon, Cystospaz, Levsin, Levbid, Donnamar, NuLev, Buscopan , Hyospasmol and Neoquess. So it sounds like your doc knows what he's doing, even if his interpersonal skills could use some remediation.

What is it with a lot of GI's? You think it could have anything to do with looking up people's butts all day???

Thanks Judy. And yea you'd think they'd know enough about butts that they would know better than to get a huge stick stuck up their own!!!

My experience with Dallas doctors, though, was that they were all a little cold to me. Fortunately I didn't have UC until we moved to Austin.
