Hey all. My doc has me on Prednisone (40mg a day 2x20mg tablets). Right now I'm taking 1x20mg in the morning and 1X20mg in the evening. He said it really doesn't matter how I take it, just wondering if anyone has had better results with all 40mg at once or 20mg twice a day. Thanks!
Initial Symptoms SEP 2007.
Bleeding from somewhere I shouldn't be for a year and a half...ehh it will probably go away.
Diagnosed JAN 2009.

Prednisone - Hey this stuff kinda works.
Rowasa - Fun little way to end the day.
Asacol: Not so much!

I definitely had to break up my dose, I went so far as to take it 4x a day. When I took it once a day, I would get all my UC symptoms back right before my dose was due. I finally figured out that I needed the drug to remain at a constant level in my body so taking it in divided doses 3-4 times a day worked best for me.

I like to break up the larger doses but pill burden also sucks so sometimes I would forget my morning meds... Don't mess with prednisone so whatever gets the meds in you...
UC (Pancolitis... 90%!) December 2001
Arthritis (2003)
Upper GI Ulcer (2006)

Meds:Bump up every couple years... You name it, I've used it! Sulfasalizine, Asacol, Rowasas, Pentasa,
Remicade, 6mps... And now it looks like the once daily Lialda taken twice a day isn't enough...
Here comes Humera.

Soon to be mom- hopefully! As long as this flare dosen't take me out...

I don't think it is advisable to break the dosage. I have always been advised by all my doctors that it should be taken in the morning only, and if possible with milk. They were of the view that the Pred taken in one dosage is more effective. If you take it in the evening, or at bed time, it is likely to cause more side effects, in some cases.

There are lots of threads on HW on this issue. Please go through the same before you embark upon any decision.

The usual recommendation is to take it all at once, in the morning with food. This most closely mimics when your adrenal glands release their natural steroids into your body. It also helps a lot of people to minimize the insomnia Prednisone may cause.
