I'm so tired of the swollen chipmunk face with the prednisone! I am on 30mg and tapering 10mg a week to 20, then I think 5mg a week so I think it's like June 1st before I'm off pred and wondering if I'm going to look like a chipmunk until then!

I didn't lose the moon-face till after I was completely off pred, but some people see an improvement once they drop down to lower doses too. I found that not putting salt in my food helped reduce water retention and moon face. It also helps to watch what you eat and don't give in to the munchies (I know, easier said than done)

Some are lucky and lose it while tapering, I'm not one of those people. It always takes me the amount of time I was on Pred for it to go away, so if I was on it for 3 months, it takes 3 months for my face to be back to normal. It's my most dreaded side effect.

Me too! What sad news this is. I am down to 40 mg of pred and I taper by 5 mg every 4 days (as long as things go okay). I want my face back! I have really had enough of the hairy moon face, the acne, the joint pain and the insane mood swings (so has my family). Would like to feel better and look better!

Mine started to shrink as I tapered, but it was slow. After I was off completely, it really went back down to size. However, the 50 pounds I gained on pred (in 3 months) didn't go anywhere. Blah.

Honestly, the side effects seemed to go away in the order they showed up. My first side effect was acne, and that cleared first. Then I got facial hair, and that was the next to go. I didn't develop the moon face or gain weigh until a month in, so it did take longer for those to go away. Oh, and I developed that hump too-that has decreased, but is still there.

I hope I NEVER have to take that horrible stuff again. I hated it. (plus I had terrible paranoia and lost a TON of hair when I tapered) Nasty nasty stuff.

I know how hard it is-I really hope your cheeks start to go back to normal as you taper!

My moonface has been very slow to subside, I've been on 0-10 over the past three weeks and just noticed it start to subside in the past few days.

Maybe it's my imagination, or coincidence, but I think flying -- which is very dehydrating -- caused my face to start slimming down. But I had my photo taken a few times on the trip, and don't intend to ever print them. Ugh, looked terrible terrible.

Even when the pred was gone, and the cheeks seemed normal, when I look at the photos of last summer there was still puffiness. Yep, it's a slow go, but try not to let it affect who you are on the inside!

I have been on prednisone now going on four months.  I developed the moonface about two months ago.  I am very lucky not to have gained only about 5 lbs. but I am already about 80 lbs. obese.  I do not like the moonface but small price to pay if the prednisone is working and seems to be.  I think the withdrawal will be worse.  I truly enjoy prednisone and wish I could stay on it in small dose.  I have the best skin in years, arthritis pain is so much better, energy is up and a few other things are better - probably because UC is better too.

If you want to see me and my moonface - check out my blog about my husband and I and our journey with his lung cancer.  I am so much better off with UC than cancer!!

I tapered down Prednisone in December, meaning that I was done tapering in December and quit taking it. I lost my moonface in the beginning of April ... that's a mighty long time. Hope you will not have the cheeks for the rest of the year.

On a positive note, I had the most beautiful skin on Pred. It was flawless and smooth and gorgeous. Now I have zits and dryness and redness thanks to 6MP. Boo! But I chose that over Pred of course.

Hang on in there and all the best for you!

It took me several months to lose the moonface, but then I was on prednisone seven months last year, from April thru October.  Christmas pics still show me with the chipmunk cheeks.

On prednisone for 5 months and took maybe three weeks to start slimming down.  So nice to be able to actually see the bones in my face again!  Hang in there....every way you will notice a difference!
