I need advice please!!!  3 weeks ago i was admitted in the Hospital for c-diff & stayed for 6 days. I only had one positive stool sample. As of last Monday it still is negitive . When i was released for the Hospital i ended up getting a cold that turned into Bronchitis.  I was on every drug to help me get better, i still have a 102 fever on and off for 3 weeks and have lost 30 pounds too.  I went and had a chest x-ray done today and it was clear so my upper infection is better, they did put me on more antibiotics because my WBC is 24.  My count has never been over 15 & that was with c-diff.  I am taking probiotics also to help my immune system. I haven't taken my 6-mp or Humira in 2 weeks.  I am new on Humira & ever since i have started it  i've been sick.  I go to my GI tomorrow and praying she gives me a referal to a Surgent, This is my 2 GI by the way. So anybody want to let me know if they have gotten this sick.  Also i've only been in remission once in almost 5 years & now my joints hurts (spine is the worst). I'm ready for Surgery would u be if u were me?

Did your GI doctor tell you to stop the 6MP??  That is a very high white count.  Mine is only 2.9...too low but I am on 6MP.  What antibiotics are you taking? When I have an infection, the doctor usually gives me Cipro but then I have to take Flagyl along with it.  They said the Flagyl keeps the good bacteria from getting destroyed..who knows?
Don't jump the gun on surgery.  I was hospitalized ten days last year ...very bad flare and had to be fed through a PIC line.

That's very high. I hope you can get it under control somehow. i just got my blood test results and my WBC count was 7.5 and i am mildly flaring w/o any prescription drugs. the reference range is 3.8-10.8 Thousand/uL on my sheet.

Yes, that is a very high white count. They need to give you a thorough check up to find out why it is that high and where the infection is coming from. I am sorry you are so sick. Will keep you in thoughts and prayers. Hang in there!

I think first you need to find out what's going on to make your WBC so high- obviously you have some sort of infection, somewhere. Or, if your UC is badly flaring, it could be from that too, I'd imagine. Don't listen to the people who are telling you not to jump the gun on surgery- if you are ready, go for it! There is absolutely zero reason not to. If your GI can definitively say you are sick due to UC, ask, don't wait for a referral to a surgeon. Good luck- sorry it's so awful right now!

diagnosed with UC '02
meds-
Asacol- 8 tabs/day
Remicade-10mgs/kg- since 4/07
Imuran- 150mgs/day
various probiotics
Fiber supplement

Thank you everyone, i went to the Gi today and they put me on Vancomycin 25mg except i drink it. She thinks i may still have C-Diff. So i don't have to take any of my 6-mp or Humira cause it can make things worst. She is working on a referral to Duke (NC). I'm sooooo happy about this!!! I did have a fever of 104.4 today but got it down w/ tylenol & a cool wash cloth. I was taking Flagyl but it doesn't seem to work that great for me anymore. & Cipro is one of the reasons i got C-Diff!!! So i don't ever want to see that drug again!!! Has anyone ever taken Vancomycin ? Any side efffect ?

Cipro GAVE you C-diff?  Wow, I wasn't aware it could do that.  See, learn something new every day.  Having that high of a fever indicates you have infection somewhere.  The reason I said don't jump the gun on surgery is the fact that last year I was sick as a dog, hospitalized for ten days, sick for seven months.  During that time, I wanted another opinion.  I wasn't quite satisfied with my GI doctors.  I went to a top notch gastro surgeon.  He spent an hour with me explaining that surgery is a last ditch solution and it isn't always what it's cracked up to be.  But then again, my UC is confined to my rectum.  He said the rectal area, although extremely painful when inflamed, is the easiest to treat.  He explained it would take time, but I would get better.  AT the time I thought....right, easy for him to say.  However, he WAS RIGHT.  I have been in remission since Nov 1st.  Everyone is different and I consider myself one of the lucky ones...for the present time anyway.  God bless and I wish you well.

Thank you so much for your feed back, i pray that will happend but i just like to see what else is out there. And yes Cipro & the grouph of its meds can cause C-Diff but only Flagyl & Vancomycin can get rid of it and you have to swollew it. The Vancomycin is making me sicker but i'm doing everything i can to keep it in. And still running a fever of 101.0 hope things get better soon. ty again
